It’s safe to say that Daniela and Giancarlo Cusano, co-owners of La Famiglia Dolce Amore (behind Dolce Amore and The Gelato Mafia), are pretty serious when it comes to gelato. Heck, Daniela’s father was the one who started the business back in 2002, meaning she’s been learning the trade since she was a teenager.
Fast forward today, and the duo is opening the second part of their three-in-one Italian concept, offering their signature gelato as well as other Italian fare.
The Dolce Amore Caffetteria, located in Burnaby, is officially opening its doors on Oct. 4.
“Similar to our favourite spots in Italy, our caffetteria will be open daily, from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and our hope is it’ll be an all-day destination where people can come together for various reasons throughout the day,” said Daniela and Giancarlo. “For example, a cup of morning coffee and cornetti on the way to work, casual lunches, afternoon breaks, evening aperitivi, and of course, a little digestivo to go with our gelato.”
On the pastry side of things, you’ll find a selection of homemade treats like cornetti (the Italian version of a croissant made with brioche-like dough), pain au chocolats, and seasonal dishes. There’s also tiramisu, cookies, and cheesecake alongside freshly baked artisanal breads and baguettes.
When it comes to more substantial offerings, Dolce Amore Caffetteria will serve a variety of focaccia sandwiches, pizza al taglio (a.k.a Roman-style pizza), and savoury cornetti options with ingredients like prosciutto, creamy burrata, and grilled vegetables.

You’ll also be able to enjoy espresso and specialty coffees made from beans sourced directly from Napoli, alongside aperitivi into the evening.
“We truly want Dolce Amore Bar & Caffetteria to become a space for connection, where people can gather throughout the day, whether for an espresso, a slice of pizza, or a drink before or after dinner,” added Daniela and Giancarlo. “Dolce Amore is about family and community, and this new space definitely carries that tradition forward.”

Dolce Amore Caffetteria is the second part of the three-concept space to open. It’s gelato patio — a.k.a. The Gelato Mafia TGM Terrazza — opened in June.
Those waiting to enjoy Il Cappello Enoteca, the third concept in the building, brought to us in collaboration with chef Pino Posteraro and pastry chef Joyce Mak, will have to wait a little bit longer.
