Yeah pretty much the title. I got an amazing deal of FB marketplace about two weeks ago, CC Woodwind 36 with sidekick for $65. Owner reported “glitches” with control panel here and there, but I’ve had no issues until now. Well yesterday I’m 4 hours into a butt and open the lid to check progress. Obviously I lose some temp doing that so the auger and fan both throttle up to get back to temp.

About 30 seconds later the screen goes black and then the grill totally shuts off. I turned it off and turned it back on, nothing. Unplugged and plugged back in, nothing. Finally I unscrew the fuse knob and find this piece of metal and balled up tinfoil crammed inside. Am I an idiot, or is there supposed to be an actual fuse in here?

I ordered a fuse from camp chef to be safe instead of going to Lowe’s, but I’m wondering if this caused permanent damage. Anyone have insight? I’d rather not spend $200-250 replacing the control panel, but if the new fuse doesn’t work I’m not sure where to go from here.

This is what I used to do with Christmas lights that went bad. Shove some foil i to the bad socket to make the connection. The house never did catch fire

It’s possible that there’s an electrical issue like a bad ground as well. Maybe get under the hopper and make sure all the wiring is tight and clean.
