My mom got me my 1st electric smoker for my birthday the other day. Any tips on how to properly use it? What would be the best way to do some ribs?

Before cooking for the first time you need to do a burn it and set the heat to the highest you can to burn off any oil and other chemicals used in manufacturing process.

Salt and Pepper the rib. Throw them in there at 275, You can wrap them or not at 3 hours in foil or bbq sauce and foil and cook for another hour

Way to go, mom! That’s love right there. First, as suggested, do a burn off for 30 minutes. Then get a bag of wood chips at your local grocery or wherever, a thing of pork/sweet rub, and a rack or two of ribs. Remove the silver skin on the bone side of the ribs using a paper towel (be gentle, go slow). Then apply rub to every square in of each rack. Preheat smoker to 275 (good temp IMO to start smoking with), put in 2 handfulls of wood chips to the wood chip pan, then put ribs on. I generally use an aluminum pan under my meats so I don’t make a big mess in the smoker, just a shallow pan is fine. Smoke for 3 hours, adding a handful of wood chips every 45min-1hr. Can pull a piece of meat off and try before you wrap the ribs in aluminum foil and add ingredients of your preference (i.e. apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, etc…I just use BBQ sauce on the bottom then on top). Check the ribs after an hour of being wrapped, see how they are. Very likely they’ll be cooked, you can even take one off the end and try (can also try before wrapping so you know the difference). Let cool a bit then cut and enjoy. Good luck.

Congrats! Good luck with it! Absolutely burn it off 1st and there are a lot of good rubs on the market. Starting out you can do the wrapped method – I am more of a unwrapped – but that is personal taste.

You could store a lot of money in there

Do a burn off at high temp, wipe down & then i use tallow or bacon grease on my grills & reheat before i ever put meat on.
