Im full time in the kitchen hate it most days but I still do love food and the people who appreciate it. Every once in a while I just randomly make 30-50 pounds of something at home to give away. It makes me feel better about myself when down. Sorry I needed to vent.

Oh yeah. I love to show up with a huge box of my stuff at local high school sporting events. Best advertising you can ever have.
I think about doing this. Just offering to friends so that they could save on takeout but still get a break. Then they might find opportunities to be generous with others. Appreciate that you follow through on the idea.
This is awesome. Such a good person ❤️
I made sausage from scratch for the first time recently. I ground it, stuffed it, and smoked it. Ive given like half of it away already lol.
Yeah I’m out of the kitchen as of recently but started doing stuff with food not bombs recently.
That’s direct action, my dude. Real anarchy. Inspirational work honestly. Keep it up
Anything I cook at home for myself I make in bulk so everyone can have some. Especially since the bar itches I work in doesn’t give give too much room for improvisation, it’s nice to remind my coworkers and friends just what I’m capable of. That reminds me, I need to throw down some of my spicy marinara sometime soon.
As someone who could use someone like you in my life right now, youre wonderful for doing this.
I usually make things(soups, chili) in huge batches then portion into 1 litre deli’s and freeze.
My friends come over and drunkenly raid the freezer for “treats”. So now I just give it to them right off the bat.
I recently did some smoked chili for everyone. I have some peppers fermenting for homemade sambal. I saw a thread here for “orange sauce” (?), it’s like a pureed Mexican salsa I think, anyways that is fermenting right now too.
This weekend I’m clearing out the garden so I’ll be making borscht. My favourite thing is cooking for people, ***especially*** making things that are special that you cant get anywhere.
In a couple weeks Ill make trays of lasagna. I make fresh pasta, I make ricotta, and Ill make tomato sauce from the San Marzano’s growing in my garden right now. My list of friends has been getting longer and longer.
Keep it up, feels nice doing nice things.
Yes all the time. I’m partially disabled with chronic pain and make way too much food. My friends and their kids eat well! edit: cooking is my little happy place distraction and I get carried away (:
Dude. Yes.
I’m not going to be able to find it, but my dream place is based off a fancy place that is also a soup kitchen.
Monday – Friday plated seating.
Saturday closed for maintenance.
Sunday – free food
I don’t know if they still do it.. but the idea was that a portion of everyday sales and acceptable leftovers when to feed people on Sundays.
This is awesome! Nothing quite like the feeling of cooking for someone that needs it.
I bake cookies twice a week just to give to people. Baking heals a part of my soul but I never wanna eat what I bake.
Not in the same sense, but whenever I visit friends and family I’ll always bring some homemade goodies.
I got a great deal on beef bones from an old boss and made like 50L of stock over a long weekend. After I reduced it all down I threw it in delis and froze it. Gave it away to all my family and friends because the fuck am I gonna do with 20L of beef stock at home? My freezer ain’t that big.
So nice of you to cook for people! 😁👍
That’s super admirable, to look out for others. If you need to vent my inbox is open. I stay busy but I don’t ignore anything. Big hugs friend.
I’ve done things like this before and it does feel good. I wish I did it more. An easy version is just making coffee in the morning and offering it to my neighbors.
Yes! My mom and I did this last week. Made a bunch of burritos, bagged up some chips and salsa then put some sodas on ice. Went to our downtown square and the 20 servings we made were gone in about five minutes. It felt really good and we got lots of smiles and few hugs from the people who ate.
We spent $60 and about three hours. That’s the same amount of time and money we would have spent going out to lunch together. Using that money to make food for hungry people was way more fun.
She’s a personal chef and I’m a career server/bartender/occasional BOH helper so feeding people is how we show love. Looks like you show your love the same way! I’m so glad you shared. Makes me wanna do it again. Keep up the good work.
My mom lived in a building for disabled and elderly for a few years, this was my favorite thing to do
I met so many cool people with great stories.
Thank you for your generosity.
*If an older woman with canned cherries wants to tell you a story and give you a jar, take the damn cherries.
You won’t regret it.
I bake to give away. Love to bake but I do not have a sweet tooth
In this economy?? Uh, no. Good on ya though mate. You’re a real one.
That’s love in its truest form – even when the job burns out, you still give. Respect.
I stress cook rather than stress eat. I haven’t done it in a bit but during the 2024 election I gave away sooo many lasagnas and containers of jambalaya and biscotti.
Not in this economy
Where do you give that someone would accept some randos food?
I just call it parenting.
Not really on the same level but I’m living in a dorm for college and I’m the only guy who uses the kitchen. Everyone else is super busy with school and/or their jobs so whenever I cook I always double it and save the leftovers for them to take and eat when they have time.
Im a cook..

I do that shit, too. I work with a lot of kids. I like to make batches of cookies. They’re always grateful and I get to practice something new. I always feel good.
Soups. Pickles. Dog treats. I really have made a lot of shit for peeps and their fams lol
That’s a really cool idea
I made 4 gallons of chicken stock this weekend for this exact reason.
Bless you. You’re making the world a better place if you’re feeding people.
I wish I existed around people who would appreciate me giving a home cooked meal to them like you are
At home? I wish I had friends to give it to.
Done this many times my dude. Hang tough.
That’s how I cut my teeth in the world of BBQ.
I would:
– Make something at home
– Bring it to the barber shop
– Give it away, contingent upon honestly answering 2 follow-up questions: a. Did you enjoy your meal (not just cuz it was free)? B If so, would you pay X (low), Y (medium), or Z (high) dollar-amount
– Thank them & tabulate feedback
I think I’m pretty good. My test group thinks so.
I have a birthday party coming up and I’m mostly excited to just cook
All the time. But I really do like cooking. The food I like to cook is not really appreciated by my wife and daughter, so when I make soups or chilli’s, I freeze it and give it away to my friends. One of which also likes to cook in great quantities, so we have a nice little food exchange program going.
If I do this, I would probably starve my family for a week.
I make food to feed strays on walks and jogs.
What is the light green veg?
