Went to a deep clean on my kettle as it’s been a bit neglected. The cover blew away and I left it out in the elements for months. scrubbed it and cleaned it today and the inside is pretty good but the outside has the rusting on the lip and whatever that dust looking damage is (won’t come off)
do i just moved forward and keep cooking or have i doomed this thing?

Just cook on it for god’s sake
I don’t see rust, it looks like you got rid of that. I do see pitting, which means you lost some metal, but that won’t change how the grill cooks. Just don’t put any paints or random chemicals on the *inside.*
If you used some sort of polishing compound on the outside, I’m not vouching for it. Get it hot as hell, cool it off, spray it down, then cook something hot. If you notice any weird flavors, you should probably just admire the looks and get a new grill.
If you want to rub a little cooking oil on the bare spots and cook on it… it’ll season, I guess… but you’re good.
