Recently visited Japan for a holiday and of course had to check out the fabled Glitch while I was there. Didn't bother with Ginza and visited the Osaka Cafe instead. It's much nicer and far less busy.

Long story short its the best coffee I've ever had but not something you would enjoy daily as its a bit out there and not necessarily what you would go for when you want a coffee. Great experience but maybe something you'd get once a month as a special treat.

Went in the first day and the espresso machine was broken so the wife and I shared two pour overs from two different beans one iced and one cold. They were both incredible and we found it hard to believe it was actually coffee, tasted more like a flavoured tea. No idea how they're able to get these flavours.

We enjoyed it so much that we came back a couple days later and got a double espresso and an iced latte (wife's choice). Espresso was also amazing although with a lot less body than I'd typically enjoy, it was served as two separate shots which were prepared differently. The iced latte was also surprisingly good tasted very sweet and the espresso complimented the milk really well.

Overall I'd say if your in Japan its definitely worth checking out at least once but I wouldn't base an entire trip over it.

One day it’ll be me, *one day*.

Did you put your feet/leg on the table? That’s crazy.

My butt has been on that same leather chair

But I had the Colombia Huila Monteblanco

  4. Serious question, why in most of these premium coffee shops espresso looks so weak with no crema and also tastes like battery acid?

I keep going to such places and get disappointed meanwhile paying about 3 times I usually would.

Im not saying thats the case in this one but Im going to Osaka soon and I will give it a try 🤞

    Shoe on the table?

That’s not on and they should have asked you to leave and refuse service.

    You’re in japan.

How’s your trip? I’m planning an itinerary for my solo visit soon; and I’d love to hear about your experience there.

I live in Japan and used to live a 5 min walk from one of these. I don’t get the hype for this place.

The guy I saw making coffee had pretty bad technique (mashing the coffee when tamping grinding the sides of the tamper on the portafilter basked, it looks significantly worn from doing this, luckily the basket probably catches any metal chips), not clean.

I did like that the reviewed the beans on a plate to single out any off beans.

Coffee tasted too coarse and like my kid put dried banana in the grinder.

You guys should try Uncle Ben’s Coffee in Hong Kong, he does the same thing as glitch – coffee processed to have additional flavours. Lighter roast and more subtle so you can taste the underlying coffee.

  8. Photo 1 shows exactly why Glitch is to be avoided.

That Osaka shop is the best glitch of them all! Great customer service and super nice!

I’ve also been there but I didn’t put my foot on the table. Didn’t know people were doing that.
