Hi is turning 5 and he being alive today is a miracle in our lives.
Thank you guys for being so kind yesterday. I was really sad and crying because he asked me for a homemade cake and was this disaster monster cake and you guys turned it in love, kindness and funny ideas and stories.

I saw this post yesterday and thought it still looked pretty cool, almost cartoony (in a good way) the look on his face says the cake was a complete success!! Sounds like you have a great, loving family who appreciates each other! Happy birthday to your son!

If he had a digger toy I would have put it on top to make it look intentional. I tried a chocolate cake recipe for my sons birthday that ended up so flat i had to cook a middle tier of vanilla cake on a whim (i had run out of cocoa powder). I was so upset and flustered at the time but turned out to be my best cake in the end, also was for my sons 5th birthday 🙂

I made a cake for my son’s birthday. Two layer 9×13. Invited my whole family. The cake decided to collapse in the middle. I was so embarrassed, I put it on top of my dryer in the laundry room and asked my husband to get a cake at Safeway.
Later on, I admitted to my family my mistake and they asked me to bring it out. They ate up that cake and said it was way better than the store bought cake! Sometimes mistakes aren’t so bad 🙂
Many cakes show style over substance; this is the opposite but it looks delicious. And could the Birthday Boy have a bigger grin? I don’t think so…

Look how happy he is! Hes a kid and its chocolate that his mom made for him, I promise you he doesn’t care what it looks like. He just wants a fork. Kids dont have happiness like that in their eyes if mom and dad arent doing a good job. Keep baking those special cakes. I guarantee you this will be a story you are still talking about with him when he has a family of his own.

As someone with a mother who baked for me and my friends my entire childhood, I promise you that we were never once upset that her baking didn’t come out perfectly, we were excited that there was something she baked available for us to eat. My mom’s cookies are still, to this day, legendary among the friends I’ve had long enough to remember her baking them, and I’m nearly 30. (Don’t worry, she’s not dead, she just baked obscene amounts of them for 30 years and said she had enough and none of us can blame her for it lol)
My favourite birthday cake ever was the one my grandma called her worst cake.
