Lid was too cold, pot was warm is my guess. If you contact Crock Pot, they might replace it.

Wow, I’ve never seen that before.
Agreed with another comment. Contact Crockpot and see what they can do.

Sometimes tempered glass just pops. I think I’d agree w the previous comment though. Too hot too fast or vice versa.

Maybe it cooled down and the plastic / moisture created a seal thus creating a vacuum inside and breaking the lid.

Glass like that weakens over time with regular washing in dishwashers.

  6. The liner might have created a seal around the edge, and possibly a vacuum

God punished you for cooking your food in plastic

Not sure but why are you cooking with plastic, a material that breaks down under heat? Completely unnecessary.

  9. Why am I seeing folks using these liners all of a sudden? I guess they’ve been around for a while but I hadn’t seen posts on here with them until the last couple weeks or so

Not that it caused it but what were you making? Generally just curious

I’m getting Alien vibes 😱 A xenomorph popped out?!

You aren’t supposed to use a liner like that

  13. ColdPorkChop

It’s self-destructed in shame for having a liner used on it.

The lid on your crockpot shattered. You’re welcome.

    !!!URGENT PSA!!!

    Never. Ever. Ever.

    Ever.

It seems like it’s a common thing but the most common cause of a glass lid spontaneously shattering is a microscopic imperfection in the tempered glass.

Microscopic crystals in the glass can slowly expand over time, especially when exposed to heat. This can increase stress points within the glass, eventually causing a spontaneous fracture.

The lid can be weakened if the handle was screwed on too tightly or if the glass was poorly tempered during manufacturing. These stress points can cause a failure during normal use.

A seemingly perfect lid may have an unnoticeable weak point. Even small nicks, chips, or scratches from utensils or cleaning with abrasive pads can compromise the integrity of the tempered glass over time. The heat from cooking can then cause that weak point to expand and break.

I would contact Crockpot and let them know it was from a manufacturing defect so they replace it. If you bought it less than 12 months ago, it should still be under warranty and you can make a claim here: https://www.crock-pot.com/support/contact-us#callUs
    Or call them: 1-800-323-9519

If you have a glass object, the reality is, over time with repeat use, each vibration, each accidental clink, etc, increases the possibility of a crack forming. It can be infinitesmal. But that’s all it will take for it to shatter when then exposed to extremes in temp – even if exposed to that regularly – or even just a like tap or the vibration from sound.

This is also how some people are able to break a wine glass with their voice. Others have replicated the trick by stressing the wine glass – repeatedly tapping it against a surface is encourage a portential fault for instance – and then attempting to make it vibrate with the sound until it shatters.

Maybe they need to make bags for the lids too.

Contact their customer service, probably replace the whole unit.
