This sums up every Sunday afternoon I worked as a server
Technical_Dress6202
Well you see, the 10% to “christ” is used to buy the pastor a private jet. And the 15-30% a server takes is used to pay for their right to live.
onioning
Yah know you pay 100% of the bill, right?
joemoffett12
Why does Christ need money. Is he going to be showing up on a Sunday with a 18 top that tips 6 bucks like most of his followers?
blackstar22_
Just curiously thinking out loud who does the audits to find out where that 10% goes? I mean it’s all cash right? Who keeps track of all that cash?
And how much of it goes to helping the poor, because this country is REALLY religious and the only meaningful help poor people get here is (not enough) from our tax dollars. 🤔
Just curiously asking questions.

Christ turned water into wine .. I turned a cow and some things found in the dirt into a 5 star meal. I did more work, I should get paid more.
lol I know math is hard and isn’t in the good book, but the denominator for one calculation is ALL YOUR FUCKING MONEY and the other one is THE COST OF DINNER. Division is hard even for some of our brightest, I guess.
Due-CriticismNachos
The tithe is to keep one’s heart focus on God and not just obtaining money for one’s own wants/needs.
The 15-30% tips is to help others live and appreciate their service.
Tithe and tips serve two widely different purposes.
I love God so I give some of my money to help others. I love people and want them to have food, feed their kids, have a place to live and enjoy life so I make sure to tip.
The person in the pic has a heart issue they need to fix.

Christians are supposed to give 10% of their INCOME. That’s a lot more than 20% of your 60$ dinner bill
YupNopeWelp
Feel free to copy/paste/change as needed, OP.
Dear Cheap Boomer,
Servers are not looking for 15-20-30% of your *INCOME*. They’re hoping for a percentage of the bill you incurred. That bill would be more expensive were restaurants to charge patrons enough such that they could pay their employees a living wage.
Call me when the restaurant staff is getting all of the profits they create. Your analogy is terrible. You might have a little atherosclerosis from eating out too often. Maybe tip more and eat out less.

The almighty god needs his 10%. They believe god can do anything but money; what are the odds?

i have too much faith in people. i thought they were gonna be like, “why are people so stingy about tipping when they give money to a dead dude”

Jesus Hagrid Christ of Lazareth, King of the Gays and Low Income Children, is dead. Food service workers are alive. Jesus Baby H Chrimmity doesn’t need money for gas and after work beers.

They really hate doing all the things Jesus taught “that which you do for the least of us”

I love how the subtext is going over this man’s head. It’s 10% of your total earnings you tithe???? lol Tips are based on the price of your meal? Unless your meal (which you tip on the total price of) is equal in price to your salary, this makes no sense. Imagine basing your life on a book and not even being able to apply it in context. Christians <3

I’m sure servers would be happy with 10% *of your income* per service.

I wouldn’t really call it “thinking” out loud. More like being an asshole out loud.

In the state I live in if you work a serving job you are paid at least (generally) minimum wage. You are then taxed on 8% of your total sales, i.e. you sold $100 worth of food you made $8 in tips.
So in a state like this if you come in and order $50 worth of stuff and don’t tip me. I was taxed on $4.50 of income to wait on you.. for an hour.. with your endless refills.. and your unruly fucking kids… and I did it with a smile.
All of that being said, the blame goes to the way the industry is set up here. Overhead is so high most places are barely scraping by. They depend on the public to help pay part of their employees wages. Their hands are tied too most of the time.
I tended bar for over 20 years, worked in some high end places, truth be told I preferred working at dive bars. Even in the upper end places the margins are pretty damned tight.
Tldr: blame the system
Edited for clarity
2nd edit: in my tax bracket it costs me about $1.30 in taxes, a seat that could be filled by a tipping customer, and an hour of my life i will never get back lol
bluestargreentree
It’s a false equivalence. No one is asking you to give 30% of your income to servers at restaurants.
BootsOfProwess
your tips is based on your bill. your tithe is based on your income. two very different numbers. and frankly, you shouldn’t give anything to any church you go to. they do well enough. god doesn’t need money but you do.
teapots_at_ten_paces
Dude thinking he’s giving 10% to Christ.
No brother. That’s the tip to your pastor.
HappyVillage661
Based on behavior, tip percentage and food order on Sunday brunch, I got pretty good at guessing the denomination of the guests.
ThunderJohnny
They give tithing because they’re brain washed
SockSock81219
Short answer: Christ doesn’t have rent to pay.
Also: Do you, though? Do you really give 10% of your income to your church? Or do you just throw some loose change in a basket once a month? And what would Christ say about spending money at an Applebee’s for well-done steaks and cobb salads and Long Islands instead of feeding and clothing the poor?
RoyalStallion1986
Easy response as a religious person who is in food service. You give 10% or your income to God, with the server you’re only tipping on the bill. Also, generosity and giving to others was like top 3 things Christ preached.
runny_egg
Maybe we should give 20-30% to Jesus!? And, sunday brunch after church is the worst service of all time!! Through Mother’s Day in there and I’m all in on giving all Sunday tips to the satanic temple!!

If anyone named Jesus brings me food, I thank him, eat my fajita, and leave a tip.

Also Boomer, biblical tithing was instituted when that 10% funded the theocratic government. The Lord gave land as their portion to 11 of the 12 tribes of Israel (see [Deuteronomy 18](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=deuteronomy%2018&version=NIV)). The one tribe that didn’t get land was the Levites, who oversaw the religious life of Israel. Their portion was offerings given the Lord (see [Numbers 18](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers%2018&version=NIV)).
