i think reducing them to jalapeno poppers is an offense to chiles rellenos lol

i do love mexican style stuffed jalapenos though!

Kinda. Theyre both stuffed chilies, and cheese is a common filling for both.

Your big difference is going to be that chiles rellenos aren’t spicy and are a full dish while jalapeño poppers are spicy and are more of an appetizer.

This is like asking if pizza is Italy’s version of hawaiian pizza.

I think jalapeño poppers are the appetizer version of chili relleños. Poppers are usually pre-made and frozen. They’re shareable and can be made in large batches quickly. Chili relleños takes a skilled hand and is better made to order. For example, popcorn shrimp isn’t the same thing as shrimp tempura.

Also, your pic is stuffed peppers, not chili relleños.

As a concept, yes. It’s a chile with a filling, and in Mexico most chilies can be stuffed.
However, there are levels: the top one goes for Chiles en Nogada, then Chiles Rellenos and then you can have jalapeño poppers.
The hierarchy depends on the amount of ingredients, techniques, and of course flavor.
While jalapeño poppers are an appetizer, a Chile en Nogada is a delicacy only available during a few weeks a year due to the seasonal ingredients. Chiles Rellenos are in between.
