Making some meatballs and noticed my Thermapen was 20d degrees cooler than the probe that came with the Searwood. Decided to do a little experiment… pretty sure the ice water isn’t 170.

Should I bother trying to replace this or just get a nice set of 3rd party probes?

I haven’t tried the ice thing but noticed the actual thermostat on the smoker is always 20 degrees higher than actual ambient temp and the probes the same.

I’ve been using the Meater instead

I had one bad with my Searwood, Weber shipped out a replacement after a little troubleshooting. Both of my probes are now within 5 degrees of each other which isn’t bad.

Yea I tested mine they are with in 5 deg or less the meat and grill probe I like having both temps on one app why I don’t do 3rd party. I have a wired thermo pro they are with in 5-10 of webers so I will stick with them.

  4. I’d recommend going wireless with the Chef IQ probes. They have been one of my best purchases over the past several years. Excellent temps, alerts on my phone, zero issues.

  5. Interesting reading these comments. First time I used my probes the meat temp showed 20 degrees lower than my good quality instant probe. I would have overcooked my meat had I not probed early with it. I’ll have to do some further tests and maybe reach out to Weber.

I started a brisket at 9 PM last week and both probes when plugged in read 160 or some shit like this. They eventually both calmed down and started working, not sure if there was moisture somewhere? It pissed me off enough that I bought the Thermoworks Signals set so while it’ll be 2 different apps I have no doubt the Thermoworks stuff will be correct.
