I left it in the batter way too long for the first one, second one i thought i got it out fast enough, third one…i just gave up by then. This is three pieces of bread

Edit for more context: So what happened is , i had originally 4 pieces of bread. I made the mixture in a mixing bowl. I used great value brand regular sliced bread. I dipped the first piece of bread in the mixture, not realizing the bread was drinking the mixture faster than i imagined. I used a pair of tongs to try to flip the piece of bread over to get the other side. The bread breaks in half but i get it flipped. Now i'm trying to get the bread out with the tongs onto the pan, the bread is ripping into multiple pieces. On to the second and third piece rinse and repeating but keeping the bread in the batter in shorter intervals. By the time i got to the third piece of bread all the mixture was gone so the fourth slice was never cooked.

By the time i just had shreads and chunks of bread inside the pan (pictured), and i figured i might as well just 'scramble' it.

So errors I made:

1) probably used bad bread, should have probably gone with texas toast so its not as flimsy

2) Should have used a more shallow dish

3) Shouldnt have kept the bread in the mixture as long

4) Using a more shallow dish would allow me to use a spatula and not tongs to try to transfer the bread.

Thank you guys for your help and gentle roasting. I love yall, and I hope to try this again and have a successful part two <3

It seems like you were not successful. Hopefully it tasted okay?

are you trying to stir it once you got it in or something? lol

seems like you over-saturated the bread in the eggs and the heat was too low, and you started moving around the soggy bread aggressively like you were mad at it.

why were you mad at the bread?

Wtf even happened? Lol did you just scramble the toast? You just dip them in for a few seconds per side then into the pan

Scrambled French Toast. I would eat this with some hash browns.

We’ve all been there one recipe or another, you gotta start some where! Make sure u have a fair amount of butter or ghee on the pan so the bread is basically slippery on the pan. I use medium low temperature. Any bread could basically be used , usually I have a fairy thin sourdough bread handy and it comes out just fine. A spatula will do u so much better than tongs as well . I use a couple eggs , a tbsp of milk, some maple syrup , cinnamon and nutmeg in my mix and whip it very nicely. Never any problems . Best of luck to you for next time, don’t worry you’ll ace this soon enough

    French Scramble… or something.

Kind of reminds me of šmorn.

All you need is a quick dip in the batter on both sides
