What a wonderful experience. Our guide, Perrine was amazing, so knowledgeable and passionate. She led us around the chateau, into the vineyards, and the cellar, giving history and insights into the wine making. We tasted the 2016 and 2022 vintages. The 2016 was so harmonious: white flowers, beeswax and citrus on the nose, creamy on the pallet like a lemon custard, with an extremely long finish. The 2022 was concentrated, and laser focused. Honey and floral nose, vibrant acidity, with a candied orange peel finish. 100/10 would recommend.

Sounds fantastic! Were you able to taste their dry white, “Y” (pronounced e-greck)

That expensive yet clearly dated and used décor is a perfect embodiment of where Sauternes is at nowadays.

    I love Sauternes.

I have had Yquem one time. It was from a 1990 double magnum, two years ago at a two star restaurant in the Mosel. After spending a few days drinking Auslese, this wine was a huge let down. I found myself craving the acidity of Riesling to balance the intense sweetness of Sauternes. I would like to try it again though, under different circumstances. I think chugging Riesling for several days affected what my palate was craved during that time.

I never thought I liked dessert wine until trying d’Yquem

Was in that same room on Thursday. What an experience! The maps with the visual effects were incredible and the wines obviously speak for themselves.

What record did you listen to during your tasting?

Had the same experience last year. Never had a Sauternes prior to the tasting. Glad you got there too!

What an incredible experience there. And their still white was next level!

So wait, a tasting at d’Yquem only includes recent vintages? I absolutely love Yquem and always dreamed about visiting the chateau. But my dream includes trying something from the 60s, 70s or 80s. Is that an option or am I just dreaming?
