A Bold Street café whose hot pink exterior has greeted commuters from Liverpool Central Station for three years has announced its plans for closure. Duman, located at the lower end of the busy street just across from the train station entrance, will close its doors for the last time on Sunday, October 12.
The Mediterranean-style patisserie opened in 2022, taking over the unit which was once the Mi Vida gift shop. In an Instagram post made yesterday, October 6, a spokesman said: “It comes with a heavy heart to say… our beautiful pink Duman journey is coming to an end.
“We will officially be closing our doors for the last time on Sunday 12th.
“This place has been filled with so much love, laughter, and of course sweet treats, and none of it would have been possible without each and every one of you.
“From the breakfasts, brunches, and countless desserts shared here. Thank you for making Duman part of your days and your memories.
“We can’t thank you enough for the support over the years, it’s truly meant the world to us. This weekend we will have offers on ALL our freshly made sweet treats so come and grab one while you can!”

Duman was one of a huge array of restaurants, pubs, and coffee shops to make its home on Bold Street in recent years, as opportunities for high street shopping have diminished with the recent closures of mainstays such as Ellis Brigham and Smiffys.
The street recently saw the addition of the Tokyo-inspired underground “listening bar” Suono and Joe & The Juice. House of Caesar, a Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurant, is due to open this month following a £300,000 refurbishment.
Proposals have been made to transform the former Ellis Brigham mountain clothing shop into the Coco Brazil Rodizio Bar & Grill, while Smiffys, which shut down in November 2024, was replaced by family-run tapas bar So Salsa.
The old Rennies Art Gallery closed in 2022, marking the end of a three-decade era. The picturesque building, beside the Route One skate shop, was transformed into an Italian pizza restaurant, Franco Manca, in November last year.
More recently, the “beating heart” of Bold Street, Leaf, closed down on September 21 after 15 years in the city centre.
Duman is now the latest casualty adding to the popular street’s high turnover rate. Specialising in Turkish food, the café serves drinks, desserts and breakfasts, including a whopping £36 platter for two with halloumi, pogaca, spring rolls, simit, fried eggs with Turkish Sausage, helva, menemen and Turkish tea.
On the business’ website, it reads: “In Duman Mediterranean Breakfast we believe traditions and modern times harmonize and complement each other. Everything what (sic) we make is irresistibly delicious, chic and experimental.
“Our products and service help our customers enjoy that perfect moment – all the time. Our talented team of pasty chefs use the purest of ingredients to create a product that is truly superior quality.
“We see our customers as invited guests to a party, and we are the hosts. It’s our job every day to make every important aspect of the customer experience a little bit better.”
