FAQs
What’s the difference between Sonoma County and Napa Valley wineries?
The main difference between Sonoma County and Napa Valley wineries is their style or atmosphere. Napa Valley wineries have an upscale, luxury vibe, while Sonoma County has a more laid-back feel. Winery tasting fees can also differ. Expect the wineries in Sonoma to be less expensive than those in Napa.
When it comes to wines, Napa wineries tend to feature reds with exceptional body and complexity — and a price tag to match. Sonoma has some cooler micro-climates which are ideal for white wines. These wineries are more likely to focus on making wine that tastes great without breaking the bank.
Do I have to be knowledgeable about wine to enjoy a wine tour?
No, you don’t have to be knowledgeable about wine to enjoy a wine tour — or even drink it at all! Napa Valley is known for its beautiful weather and picturesque vistas, making it a dream destination for photographers and nature-lovers.

What should I wear when visiting wineries?
Plan on wearing casual yet chic attire, such as a sundress or smart-casual outfit. Bring layers, since temperatures can vary throughout the day. Comfortable shoes are a must, as you’ll likely be walking through vineyards. Sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat will give you some protection from the sun. Avoid strong perfumes, as they can interfere with the wine-tasting experience.
The wineries we visit on our Northern California wine tours are welcoming to everyone, so there’s no need to over-dress. Dressing appropriately ensures you stay comfortable and stylish while exploring the beautiful vineyards.
Will I see any other tourist attractions during a Napa Valley tour?
Most Napa Valley tours from San Francisco spend a full day in wine country, since it’s a popular tourist attraction in its own right. But you may see other attractions on your way to and from wine country. Early in the trip, you’ll likely have views of Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39. During your trip out of the city, you’ll cross the iconic Golden Gate Bridge — and we’ll stop for a photo op on the way back.
On some of our tours, you’ll have time to stop at the “Welcome to Napa Valley” sign for some group pics. You can also choose a combo tour with a stop at Muir Woods in the morning before heading out on your Napa Valley tour.
How many days should I spend in wine country?
Plan to spend anywhere from 1-4 days in California wine country. The ideal amount of time to spend in Napa Valley depends on your interests and schedule. If your schedule is tight, a full-day or half-day trip from San Francisco can give you a glimpse into the region’s charm, with visits to a couple of wineries and a scenic drive.
If you’re passionate about wine or want a bit more time to immerse yourself, consider spending several days there. This allows you to explore both Napa Valley and Sonoma County, enjoy the many gourmet dining experiences, and take part in activities such as hot air balloon rides, a spa day, and shopping in charming towns like Calistoga.
