PEORIA (25News Now) – Midwest Food Bank received a much-needed donation to help serve area families for the holidays.

Tuesday, Peoria area Hy-Vee stores delivered a semitrailer full of non-perishable foods, including canned fruits and vegetables and boxed meals, to the Midwest Food Bank in Peoria.

Worth around $26,180, the donation will help fill Christmas Food Boxes for the Central Illinois Christmas Fund.

“Hy-Vee is happy to make the holidays a little easier for so many of our neighbors,” said Grand Prairie Hy-Vee District Store Director Chris Streit in a press release.

“We’re grateful for our partnership with the Midwest Food Bank and the Salvation Army, which both share our mission of serving our community,” he added.

Hy-Vee employees will be among the volunteers packing boxes from 1-3 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the Midwest Food Bank. They will be distributed after Thanksgiving by the Salvation Army.
