The first real birthday cake in my life. German chocolate cake. My partner said it was his favourite, his mum used to make it when he was a child.
When I asked for her recipe, I found out that she always made it from a box. I never do.
So I did some research and came up with my own recipe. As you can see it ended up being a little tall, but was delicious rich and decadent.
I'm very proud of myself, can't wait to make it again next year 😍
What do you think about the "messy look" I went with? I'm European so I wasn't familiar with this cake(it's called German but it originated in US) and I prefer "unfinished" homely looking sweets.

fuck that is really good
I don’t think that it looks messy at all. It looks absolutely delicious!
There’s nothing messy about that. It looks fantastic!
Gimme a spoon and 10 minutes and I’ll take this cake right off your hands. Love the aesthetic. It looks like the perfect filling to cake ratio. Although I was a bit confused by the title of the post, at first I thought this was a cake for a “first birthday” but then I saw the candles that said 30 😄
You did a terrific job, I would devour it.

German chocolate is one of my absolute favorite cakes. When done right it’s chock full of pecans and coconut. OP yours looks hella tasty, if slightly untraditional. I’d eat it up. And yes, it is SUPPOSED to be messy.
🤤
OMG 🤤🤤 I know there’s no guarantee on recipe being posted but I would love to make this
Looks wonderful. What about it makes it German? How does it differ from a normal chocolate cake?
I actually love that you left it as is. Not every cake has to be perfectly glazed. It looks so delicious and moist!
This looks delicious af 🤤
GIMME SOME
Looks amazing! Well done
That looks so delicious, love the texture and the pecans on top!
