Hi so a mate of mine gifted me some seeds this year. and i thought the reaper should be bright red but its mid october and the pepers are still brown and dont show any signs of turning red at all, so im thinking this is as far as it gets. Or is this a dud?
Im new to this whole pepper cultivation thing so im sorry if i got stuff wrong

Yes, chocolate habanero by the looks of it.

Some of my faveorite peppers are chocolate varieties. My all time favorite pepper is the chocolate scotch bonnets.

These are absolutely chocolate and they look great!

These peppers go great in homemade salsa! Used to grow bunches of them and put like 12 in there with 6 ghost peppers. Chocolate habaneros are wonderful

Yes those are ripe and good for picking, the brown ones are.

Chocolate habanero. Very tasty. Almost smokey bbq when fermented. One of my favorite pepper tastes there

  6. Yep, these may not be as hot as reapers / 7 pot primos but they are immensely flavorful! And tbh unless you’re stuffing your face with superhots daily, you may not even register the heat difference between a chocolate habanero and a reaper – the former still pack a lot of punch and their heat lingers.

Chocolate Scotch Bonnet or Habanero would be my guess.

They look like my (I think — long story) Scotch Bonnets which started purple for months, then green then finally yellow/orange/red
