I’m making a bunch of tacos for a party. Had the idea of just throwing all the hamburger on the smoker for some flavor before I fry it in a skillet. Anyone ever try this or have any thoughts or suggestions?

It should work well id imagine. Can even spice it pre smoke and then just crumble it after. Like how over the top chili is done

I’ve never tried it, but now I’m intrigued. If anything’s I’d probably put a rub all over the outside first, but maybe that’s not necessary? Interesting!

I’ve always wanted to try this, but with putting a steak/beef seasoning all on the outside, and then slicing it after cooling to throw on a grill or griddle to make “smoked burgers.” I do basically that with pork for breakfast sausages, so I figure it can’t be THAT different

Won’t it fall apart or is that the idea?

I’ve done this, definitely induces a smoky flavor!

No but I don’t want to smoke our sloppy Joe’s recipe. Id like to try this also

Better off getting a cast iron and browning onthere. Save time and still get smoke. Made tacos and sloppy Joe’s like this.

Might be good. Save the grease and pan crisp the tacos in it. Corn tortillas. Add pineapple as a topping

  11. I literally just googled “how to smoke taco hamburger meat” and it provided specific instructions on how to do it.

I might actually try it, thanks for the idea.

Yeah. It’s the beginning part of “over the top” chili. Or a smoked meatloaf.

Smoked meatloaf is good. Hopefully it falls apart nicely into that pan.

I have smoked meat loaf a few times. Used a mesh basket with 1/4″ squares, turned out FANTASTIC. Let er smoke!

Wait a minute… A bit off topic but this makes me wonder about smoked meatloaf tacos…

    2lbs ground beef
    1lb chorizo
    2 eggs
    Traeger Fajitas Rub
Soak a shredded tortilla instead of bread crumbs
Smoke like a normal meatloaf, rest and crumble

Would that be awesome or not that much better than just frying up slightly smoked ground meat. I guess we might have to find out

Looks like a very long meatloaf. Should be good.

It’s like the chili I’ve seen made but for tacos. Id probably blend the seasoning in, then reshape and smoke.

Is that the massive ground beef log from Walmart?

What’s your ratio like? 80/20? Things might get dry if don’t have enough fat.

My method is to use two aluminum trays, stacked with a wire rack between em to create a half inch or so gap.

Poke a bunch of holes in the top pan with my instant thermometer, and crumble up the ground beef in the pan, then toss it in the smoker and stir the meat around and adding seasonings every now and then till its done.

The holes let the grease drain off into the bottom pan

I have done it, it is amazing. I broke it up into small chunks and not a whole log
