Oh my god, this is ridiculous. I think it’s a sudden chicken. Unusual. Definitely giving Korean. It looks really good. [Music] Hi, my name is Mera Kim. My name is Song Neans. Hello, my name is Alisia. Hi, my name is Tahara Renee Christie. And today we’re trying each other’s fried chicken. If you’d like to be in the video, make sure you check out the description below. Fried chicken means to me comfort food. Fried chicken is the soul of soul food. Something special, not something I eat every day. Fried chicken is really good because you can prepare it in different ways. One of the main differences for black southern fried chicken, I think, is it’s more about the seasonings. The breading is not going to necessarily be as crispy, per se. For me, it’s the flavor. Like, if the seasonings don’t come together, what are we doing? And we season the chicken and the flour. Korean fried chicken. You double fry, then you slather it with sauce that has a lot of flavor to it. I’m not going to say KFC. I think fried chicken originated from the south cuz it’s more southern style. Southern food. Korean original chicken. It’s not frying. Oil is too expensive back then. There probably were places before the South that started fried chicken. Obviously, there was a lot of frying of chicken. But as far as breading the chicken and then frying it, I feel like that was one of those things that kind of got born in the south. Fried chicken is a luxury. Today, very popular, especially younger generation. Am I going to win today? Of course. I would say that I’m ridiculously competitive. Like, try me. I like to win. I’m in it to win it. I love fried chicken. [Music] Today I brought my grandmother’s recipe. I live in Hassienda Heights, California, but I am originally came from Soul, Korea. It’s actually two flavor. One is honey garlic and the other one is a soy garlic. very good chicken organic. I put salt and pepper. Season the chicken and then when I deep fry, I use avocado oil. Fry first and then fry second time twice. That makes chicken more crispy. Ingredients: soy sauce, garlic, ginger powder, red pepper, brown sugar, and corn syrup. Corn syrup, it’s like a honey but white and dripping rather than thick density. In a pan you pour all those and cook for a while and then mix with the fried chicken and toss it. Tastes so good and savory. That’s a secret recipe came from three generation from my grandmother. Not a lot of people know this recipe. That’s why my chicken is absolutely delicious. Wow, that looks great. Definitely looks like it’s covered in some sauce. These are tiny little baby chickens. My 10-year-old would devour this in 0.3 seconds. It could be Korean. It smells like there’s flavor in it, so I won’t knock it. Let’s try it. Oh my goodness. Okay, hold on. It looks really good. I taste a little bit of a sweetness and moist inside. Mhm. Oh yeah, this is not marinated. I don’t like the seasonings, but I feel like it was seasoned well. I definitely taste sweet, but I couldn’t taste anything further than that. So, the aftertaste lets me know that the ingredients were cheaper. This was like packet seasoning. It’s got to be an ancient secret because I have no clue. She’s hiding it for sure. You know what? I do taste like a little orangey taste. Like orange chicken. Yes. I think they did really good on presentation. It’s not something you just fry it and over. No, there’s a lot of tender loving care. I can see that. I mean, it’s not bad. It just tastes cheap. I would guess it could be Korean. Definitely Korean fried chicken. It’s giving sweet and sour, so it’s definitely giving Korean. I would give it a 10. It’s just good. I would rate this dish seven. I think it could be crispier. I would give it a four specifically for the color and the flavor. Today I brought my lemon pepper fried chicken. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. The lighter chicken is slightly lemon peppered and then the darker chicken is like a lemon pepper glaze marinade in it overnight with buttermilk, salt, pepper, Lori seasoning salt, Mrs. Dash, lemon pepper, and garlic powder and garlic salt. Mixed the flour with the cornstarch. And then I added some more lemon pepper flavor. My special ingredient is the buttermilk. Buttermilk gives it that flaky crispy taste along with the corn starch. So it’s more about giving a good texture with the taste. Especially my son and my daughter, they love my food. They always say my mom can cook. I’m very confident about my fried chicken today. Oh. Oh, I turned it around and it still looks pretty bad. Smell like a Indian food. Something like a curry. Oh, I love curry. The cooking technique is a little bit off. It smells burnt. It doesn’t look like Korean fried chicken. It looks dark color. So maybe it could be Cajun color looks too dark. It’s my opinion. Wings are expensive nowadays. So, if you’re going to buy some wings, you better season them right and you better cook them correctly cuz you are wasting your money. Honey, we going to pray about this. Don’t play. This is ridiculous. I’m going to give a try. Oh my god. I didn’t even get to the meat and my tongue was offended. H I think they did the breading really well. Strong lime flavor. Very sour. It’s so sour. If there is spice, salt, and pepper, if it was inside, it would have been better. But this is pretty good. I don’t know it’s good or bad, but unusual fried chicken flavor that I never had. You need a lesson in seasoning. And you need a lesson in cooking with oil and grease, cuz baby, this ain’t it. I think my family would think this is mediocre. You can’t just use lemon pepper. This is wrong. This is not of God. This is not holy. This is not sanctified. Not a Korean chicken. Not a southern fried chicken. Indian chicken. I seriously doubt it if this is Korean chicken. I think it’s a southern chicken. This is an attempt at southern fried chicken because they think black people like lemon pepper wings, but this ain’t it. I want to grade this chicken eight. Less fried and lime flavor. It’s overpowering. If I had to give this a rating, it would be a number one. And not because it’s the best, because this offended my taste buds and they’re highly sensitive to rubbish. Six. More spice it up for Korean standard. We want more flavor. Our ancestors are sad. I mean, Wakanda forever, but our ancestors are hanging their heads just a little bit low at this plate. Today, I brought my Kangjong fried chicken. I was born in Busousan, Korea, which is very southeast corner of Korea. And when I was 15, I came to the US. My secret ingredient is honey. It makes it so special. Soy sauce, ku jang. The rest is family secret. I paired radish with fried chicken because radish gives a real good balance. I think my fried chicken is going to win because of the flavor and moisture inside and crispy outside. It’s a winner. Oh wow, this is very nice. Look at this. It’s a boneless. I love boneless chicken. This chicken here, I know for a fact that is Korean. This is definitely a Korean meal. I think this may be onion. This looks like hikah. I am so surprised. Radish. This is my favorite with the chicken. Perfect. This smells really good. And the glaze looks really, really good. Smells so good, but has a little bit of a peanut smell. Enough talking. Let’s dig in. This is so good. This is really good. I’m going to try radish, too. M. Kind of tastes like vinegar and pickle. This is not haka. It’s almost like a kimchi. This was a great idea. Korean fried chicken always we eat with the radish sweet and sour. Perfect combination. It’s kind of sticky like honey. I could definitely taste the honey. This is different and I like different. So, this is what makes this dish so special. Flavor I’m tasting is a bit of a peanut and salt and pepper. The flavor profile is there. The seasonings are there. It’s got a nice like kick of spices. I try a lot of Asian cuisine, but this definitely tastes Korean. Fully Korean. Absolutely. 100%. More Korean fried chicken with a very mild seasoning. This is a 10. This sets the tone for this chicken. It works perfect together. Seven. Not have enough flavor. I wish there was some pop. I love this person. Like I got to meet her. I’m going to give it an eight. It really gives authentic Korean food. Like somebody learned how to make this recipe from a grandmother and this grandmother was probably very mean about her recipe and you better do it exact. And they’ve done that. I love how it tastes. It’s really great. Today I brought my crispy fried crispy chicken by Kitchen. I was born and raised in Oakland, California. Oakland and all of my family is from Louisiana from the south. One of the things that I love to do is marinate my chicken overnight in buttermilk and all of the seasonings. I usually like to massage my chicken and make sure that it feels nice and tender and warm and delicious and juicy. Presseason it. And then the next day, I blend a mixture of flour, potato starch, cornstarch, baking powder, and all of my staple seasonings. So, I was able to season all of my delicious chicken with my kitchen seasoning, which has all the blends that I need. I didn’t have to add any additional seasonings to it. And one of my secrets, okay, I’m going to tell you right now, is a little bit of Cajun seasoning cuz usually those blends will have a little cayenne pepper in it to give it a kick. Sometimes I’ll use vegetable oil, but this time I use Crisco because I was going for the crispy craftity crunch. So, just know that it’s very black. Okay, everything that I put in this is things that you would find in a home of an African from America. There’s no way you don’t taste the love that went into this chicken cuz a lot of time, love, energy, and effort went into it. They’re going to absolutely love it. Woo! Smells like chicken. Looks like a very traditional fried chicken. This chicken right here has to be better than the last one because the last one was A1. The breading very golden brown. Nice color. Looks like a dancing. Beautiful. I can’t wait to try. So flaky and juicy. Crispy. Hm. When I came to United States, first fried chicken I tried, it’s exact same taste. I don’t taste anything that really stands out. But all I can say is that it’s very flaky and it’s juicy. Good flavor, good temperature, good color. This chicken is absolutely seasoned to perfection. You don’t need hot sauce and I’m a hot sauce lover. Perfect salt, not too salty, which I like it. I cannot figure out what spices used. I saw definitely green, so I’m thinking maybe parsley or something, but it’s well balanced. I’m going to say southern. Definitely. This one is a southern fried chicken. Almost tastes like Kentucky fried chicken original. I don’t think she could have did anything better. This chicken is perfect. Something I think you can do better. Presentation. It looks like a dancing. I’m going to give hers a nine. It’s just that other chicken that I just had. It was different and it was very tasteful. Nine. This is a perfect seasoning. I would give eight. Pretty good dish. [Applause] Congratulations to me. I’m so excited that you all enjoyed my food as much as you did because I know that you did. Don’t say that you didn’t because you’d be lying to yourself. Don’t lie to yourself. I should use that famous guy on YouTube. I should use his recipe rather than my grandma. No ill feelings. I’m still confident that I had the best fried chicken. I had great opportunity in this competition. I’ll get better next time. [Music]

The lemon pepper chicken isn't even southern, a Yankee made it
Omg ppl Koreans learned how to fry chicken from the black GIs. Plus Koreans chicken the next day leftovers is terrible.
Tahera was really annoying. Thumbs down for her
I don't know. I guess I thought "trying" each others chicken would be more "try" and less "rate".
Maybe make a point to show what level of cook each person is if the rating is necessary…
But I'm more on some sincere cultural exchange stuff while the US society continues its sown reaping.
Tahera’s win wasn’t exactly fair. She barely took first by lowballing and tanking her competitor’s scores.
First of all Detroit is not "Southern" fried chicken. At least be from the south. Lemon Pepper is a known flavor for wings in Atlanta, it's not for fried chicken. Also I hope people are using peanut oil for taste.
Calou Kitchen – Tahera: The reason why she was probably a little more critical is because she does it professionally. It's understandable.
You forgot chinese chicken bruh
She said Oakland California and from the south we might be related😂❤l
That lady at the end was hilarious 😂😂😂 she should have used that guy's recipe instead. She's adorable. 🫂🫂🌹🌹
Tahera honestly didnt come across as mean, she just came across as honest lol
They really need independent judging.
Tahera only won bc she gave everyone low scores
thank god that chicken was organic aunt lol imagine eating metal chicken
As someone who was born and raised in America and also spent a year in Korea.. I literally fantasize about flying to just Korea for their fried chicken alone that shit is off the charts
The world is healing.
lady in orange seems very disrespectful
I give this two giant thumbs up for and a massive R rating for 'Racism, the chicken battles'
Low balling all the other honest contestants just so you can win isn't really a true win.
Well go head girl and win that!❤

Fry chicken in batches (don't overcrowd) until golden brown and fully cooked (internal temp 165F).
Place on a wire rack to drain excess oil (helps to keep it crispy).
Serve:
Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy hot & crunchy!
Tahera could be nicer with her comments on alesias chicken cmon man
Gawd!!! People are so offended easily!!!
The main reason black fried chicken is better because, it's good hot or cold. I really like Korean fried chicken but it is not good once it cools down.
Take note KFC! This is how fried chicken infused with love.
So well thought out.
Ngl I was praying on Tahera’s downfall
Tahera a Hatin ssa btch
Tahera needs a lesson in manners
Can I get the 2nd Korean chicken recipe please?
The lady in green is so sweet ❤ I would love to try her fried chicken 🍗🩷🩷
