Following on from three Greater Manchester restaurants being included the Inspector’s latest additions to the Michelin Guide, another dining spot in Manchester has now joined the infamous list. Of the restaurants featured in the September edition of the Inspectors’ latest additions in the Michelin Guide for Great Britain & Ireland was ‘wine-led’, rooftop restaurant Climat in Manchester city centre.

From the team behind Chester’s Michelin Guide restaurant, Covino, Climat has the become the go-to wine hotspot in the city and is situated on the eighth floor of Manchester office building, Blackfriars House. Named after the term for a specific vineyard site in Burgundy, Climat is a 100-cover rooftop restaurant featuring a ‘contemporary Parisian-style’ aesthetic and over 250 wines from across the world.

On the French restaurant’s menu you can expect snacks such a hash browns & taramasalata and comté gougères and starters like cold ratatouille & sourdough croûtes and snails, garlic & pernod butter. Climat also serves up mains like guineafowl, langoustine bisque & tarragon and halibut, new season spinach & sorrel velouté and beeswax ice cream & lemon thyme madeleines, English strawberry blancmange & chantilly cream or a cheese selection to finish.

The Manchester rooftop restaurant also offers a reasonably-priced lunch menu on selected days (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) where you can enjoy one course for £18 or two courses for £21. Their evening menu typically costs £48 for two courses and £60 for three courses, with snacks and sides at an added cost.

Climat features four seating options to dine at – the window, the kitchen counter, the outdoor roof terrace which boasts panoramic views of Manchester city centre and a glass fronted private dining room offering a bespoke set menu. The restaurant also has a glass-fronted wine cellar housing over 2,500 bottles of wine, and the outdoor terrace is home to a diverse range of ‘bee-friendly’ plants to feed the bees housed in the four hives that feature on the rooftop.

The Michelin Guide said: “You have to be in the know to come across Climat, tucked away on the eighth floor of a city centre office building. You arrive at a dedicated entrance and make your way up to the chic penthouse, where stunning city views await you.

“An open kitchen is the focus of the room, with its aromas filling the air, and the concise fixed-price menu includes well-executed dishes such as halibut with spinach and sorrel velouté, where the ingredient quality shines through. Wine is a feature with one side of the room acting as a bar and the carefully curated list deftly mixing traditional and modern styles.”

Climat now joins a wide selection of Greater Manchester restaurants featured in the Michelin Guide, including recent additions Pip, Winsome and Cantaloupe. Other restaurants who have joined the Michelin Guide over the years include Maya, Higher Ground, The Spärrows, Erst, Örme, The White Hart, Another Hand, El Gato Negro, Adam Reid at The French as well as Green-starred venue Where The Light Gets In, Michelin-starred spots, Mana and Skof.
