Insane pricing for a vineyard that didn’t exist, a generation ago

Yeah but Danny in Enterprise Sales has crushed quota for 8 straight quarters so he’s gonna buy Soul of a Lion because it really is a personal metaphor for what he’s accomplished this year.

  2. I don’t like entry level Daou at all, but Soul of a Lion is a good wine. I wouldn’t pay $160, but for $100, it’s a nice wine.

Yeah it’s a little bit overpriced. I find it funny that Napa/Paso is hurting right now, but are starting to overprice their wines.

Excellent work you mayonnaise eating executives….🤔😅👎

After buying Daou for $1 billion, Treasury has to make their ROI now. Prices don’t go down when a winery is bought out.

  5. The supplier-side marketing push behind this wine was funny. They had these custom books for accounts to announce your allocation and to try and make it seem sooo exclusive. Lol. (I didn’t buy any.)

Also in my market RNDC is charging $105 frontline so this markup is pretty normal, maybe lower than a lot of shops tbh.

You pay $1B for Daou and you get a dated Tuscan knockoff setting (with killer views) and oceans of mediocre juice.

This is cheaper than the grocery stores around here sell it for. I got to try it a year ago, can’t remember the vintage. Good, but out of my budget and I didn’t like the QPR if I was looking to spend over $100 for a bottle

    Can someone answer me this…

Ok so wine industry is doing terrible?

Why are the prices continuing to rise?

Let’s just say that $100-$150 bottle is in a herd of competition. I get why people like it but no seasoned vet is going to buy it. I’ve been selling wine for 20-plus years. It’s not getting anyone’s panties wet. Nice job with the packaging, great name, perfect for most consumers. And yes, I will continue to sell it because it makes people feel good and they like it.

Their Patrimony Cab Franc is pretty killer. But that price point is even higher I think.

That winery is 110% garbage. 🗑️

Man this wine’s tasting notes make me want to gag:

“sumptuous layers of chocolate-covered blueberry, tobacco, mocha, vanilla and toasted oak.”

Translation: “the fruit sucks so we had to cover it up with oak”

Was just at Dauo 2 weeks ago for a tasting. $50 for a tasting… very generous pours tho and probably got closer to six than 4 individual pours. We did try I think the 22 of that bottle, nothing special, not $175 worth that’s for damn sure.

Would I have paid $50 for it? No. Sister in law had an industry hook up which made it free. Even shitty bulk wine producers starting to feel like a luxury.

The best thing to say about Daou is that they’re good at what they do, which is replicating the Napa experience in Paso for customers who have lots of money, but not a lot of wine knowledge.

As I make this post, I keep wanting to use the word “hype,” which makes me wonder, could the “hypebeast” model be a way to attract younger customers? It’s practically built into the industry. How much difference is there really between a Supreme drop and a new vintage release?

Many Canadian provinces have stopped buying American wines. I wonder how that’s impacting things? If you’re selling less to Canada, then I guess your only choice is to raise prices.

This is soul of a lion. Did it used to be cheaper? I have seen it in this rage for a few years.
