Decided to give this a shot, turned out pretty well.
Basic bread recipe with bread flour, yeast, salt, sugar, oil, warm water. The oven in our house has a proofing mode (stumbled across that!). Proofed it for an hour and then broke into these pitifully shaped “bowls” and proofed again for 30 min.
Also a basic Chowder recipe that we can play with now that we’ve tried it once. Bacon, then used some of the grease to sauté celery and onions, broth, Corona, little butter, heavy cream, clam juice from a bottle, chopped clams, potatoes. Honestly tasted more like potato soup, which was fine for us. Wife doesn’t like her chowder too “fishy”. I’ll add a smidgen more clam juice next time.

  1. Cool idea! My husband won’t eat clams but I think I will try something like this.

  2. Looks delicious! I’m with you guys too, a less fishy clam chowder that tastes more like a potato soup with clams in it would also be my preference

Is that cooked or raw bacon? Honestly can’t tell.

Oh cool I just made bread bowls and my broccoli cheddar soup is cooking now. Never made either before. My bread bowls turned out a little misshapen but I’m just calling them Frankenstein bowls in honor of spooky season lol.

I feel like a thicker soup is better for the bread bowls so I’m going to add a cornstarch slurry to mine

How long did you bake the bowls and what temp? Always wanted to make them…
