The French company Castel Frères acquires Italy’s largest online wine retailer Tannico. The previous owners, the Campari Group and Moët Hennessy, sold their 50 percent stakes. The purchase price has not been disclosed. The acquisition only concerns Tannico; the platform “Ventealapropriete.com” (Valap) remains with the joint venture of Campari and Moët Hennessy.

With the purchase, Castel Frères aims to expand its online presence and e-commerce in Europe. The company expects to strengthen direct customer contact and better align its offerings with demand.

Castel ranks among the largest wine companies in France with a revenue of over 1.1 billion euros in 2024. The company owns 23 wineries in France, several production facilities, and operates around 500 branches of the wine retail chain Nicolas. It already owns the online wine retailer Vinatis.

Tannico was founded in 2012 by Marco Magnocavallo and was only acquired in 2022 by the joint subsidiary of Campari and Moët Hennessy. In 2024, the company achieved a revenue of 60 million euros.
