October 15, 2025 — An adult glassy-winged sharpshooter (GWSS) was found during routine trapping in Morgan Hill, Santa Clara County, in September.

The Pierce’s Disease Control Program (PDCP) is working closely with the Santa Clara County Division of Agriculture to determine the size of the new infestation and develop an action plan. So far, 16 adults, 16 nymphs and five egg masses have been found on 25 properties, and 600 biological control agents have been released.

Santa Clara County had been free from GWSS infestations since 2017, following the eradication of six infested areas over a 17-year period.

PDCP is currently leading GWSS eradication projects in four other counties: El Dorado, Madera, Solano and Stanislaus. PDCP has successfully eradicated 18 GWSS infestations since 2001, including six in Santa Clara County. Learn more about how PDCP finds and responds to new infestations.
