Yes Rockford Shiraz at $330 AUD so $250 US pesos. Noticing more rare Aussie reds available popping up in bars that aren't renowned restaurants.
If visiting Sydney from overseas this is a good price. It's a great old press Barossa Shiraz that I love more than Penfolds Grange.

  1. This is why I really don’t get drinking at wine bars (or in this case a beer bar) in Australia.

Most pubs also have pretty decent wine lists, and you can still find some pretty awesome wine for $20 a bottle in the stores.

Except I guarantee it’s been stored standing up in their dry store fluctuating between 20 and 35 celsius for 2 years

I can get Alpha Box & Dice Tozzo Sangio for $20 retail, so yeah $68 is steep

Seems strange to have one wine on the menu that is dramatically more expensive than anything else and nothing really in between?

Reasonable list for what it is and, if you can navigate a list, there are some good buys, like that Eloquesta Cotto for example.

That’s curious about the Barringwood. They’re a now defunct winery, so I wonder when they snapped them up. They only produced pinot noir and chardonnay grapes, and made some pretty dang nice sparkling. Avg price range from $40-80AUD. If they’re offering the estate label, $50 retail easily.

As far as I knew they sold off their 3 vineyards and it might have been to 3 different buyers. The Lower Barrington vineyard(afaik only this one?) was taken over by “House of Hargrave”.

Unsure about the other 2 vineyards, if they even exist, just something I heard through the grapevine.

Edit: fuck me that better be a vintage janzs at that price. If that’s NV that’s $25AUD retail.
