Bought in Italy in Rome, asked for procuitto and the lady said cooked or uncooked, so I went for uncooked. But does that mean it’s raw pork and I cannot eat it?

It’s prosciutto crudo and it is salted and dried, ready to eat. It’s awesome! Try it.

That looks like prosciutto to me. Would be safe to eat.

Cured whole muscle meat is safe to eat for most people.

    Go for it.

Kind of hard to smell it through the screen, eh?

You‘re from the US or UK aren‘t you?

Edit: No offense, but I know the variety on hams and meat from southern europe is not so big there.

That is prosciutto crudo, raw but cured ham. Safe to eat as is. The “opposite” is prosciutto cotto, cooked ham.
