Scored my first Traeger on marketplace for $100. Don't know much about pellet grills but I've taken an interest in trying one. Does anyone have pointers on the best way to clean this grill before I use it?

Give the hopper and firepot a good once over with a shop vacuum. Get something easy but easy like burgers or sausages for a first cook to ou started. The traeger app has heaps of great tips and information when first using a pellet smoker. Invest in a good thermometer as the supplied one isn’t always as accurate. Lastly invest in some good pellets like bear mountain or lumberjack as the traeger ones are over priced and has scented oils with mostly oak filler

Nice come up! I was just gifted almost the exact same one. It was extremely dirty and full of dusty pellets. Like another comment said, take a shop vac to it to get all the old build up out. I took a putty knife and the claws of a hammer to chip away at the charred lake of drippings that set fire to the previous owners Thanksgiving turkey. No one cleaned it. Ever.
I did encounter one thing on a 13hour pork butt smoke. The smoker was struggling to reach temp so it kept pumping pellets into the chamber and it eventually caught all at once. This caused the temps to skyrocket. My remedy for this is when I go to wrap the meat, turn the knob to the “clean out” setting for a couple minutes. (If yours has one, all the way counter clockwise is mine) This will stop the auger from feeding but will keep the flame/air going to burn down the built up pellets. I haven’t done an extended smoke yet but it’s worked on the 6 hours of ribs just fine.
