Here is a super simple saganaki recipe, also known as Greek fried cheese! Picture this: a golden-brown block of cheese sizzling in a skillet, with drizzles of glossy olive oil and a squeeze of fresh lemon, couldn’t get better than this!
Ingredients:
▢1 block kefalotyri cheese , see notes
▢3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
▢3 tablespoons olive oil
▢1 lemon , juice of
Instructions:
Dredge the block of cheese in flour and make sure every inch is well coated.
Heat up the olive oil in a non-stick pan over medium high heat.
Once the oil is hot and shimmery, place the cheese in the pan and lower the heat to medium. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until golden.
Top with lemon juice and serve right away.
If you’ve never tried saganaki, you’re in for a treat. It’s so simple to make. This Greek appetizer is basically pansiered cheese. It’s hard cheese like gravier or kefali. I hope I’m pronouncing those correctly. And you can find them in most European shops. All you need to do is to just coat them in some allpurpose flour and then sear them in some olive oil for about 3 to four minutes on each side until they have this nice golden crust. And that’s it. Don’t worry, the cheese won’t melt. Top with some freshlysqueezed lemon juice.

Looks really good 😋It has been forever since I ate Saganaki made of graviera, now I want some too🤣 although Saganaki is mostly made with feta cheese and you don't need flour, just pop it in the oven with some tomatoes, herbs, or peppers. You can also make Saganaki in a pan. Just throw in some diced tomatoes, oregano and pepper in a pan or pot and once they are soft add crumbled feta on top (make sure you have some larger chunks). You can also cook some meat and onions or seafood first and then add the tomatoes and feta. Greeks tend to use lamb or beef for meat and various types of fish, calamari or clams for seafood.
Of course there is also the Saganaki done with a piece of Feta cheese covered in a breading and done in the oven in low heat, then covered with honey 🍯😋
PS. You pronounced it perfectly, well done 👍
