Just picked this up from our local Asian food market.. do you think it will be Thai spice?
Just got this today. I’ll let you know the verdict tomorrow. Hoping it’ll be Thai spice chilis, and not just another crushed red pepper blend. Anyone try this brand before?

judging from the box it’s just dried crushed chili pepper with no other spices, maybe also w/o salt

It’s part of the equation. As mentioned, there’s no salt. Getting the salt for your dish from something like fish sauce and/or curry paste is pretty normal, the chilis go in raw or dried or crushed, whatever you prefer.

Haven’t tried this specific brand but the thai dried chilli powder is so goddamn spicy. Fire in the hole

Hello fellow Thai cooking enthusiast.
If you’re on this subreddit for any amount of time, you’ll learn the beginning and end is Flat Iron Pepper Company, I highly recommend the Asian Reds for Thai cooking or Smoke Show.
The Asian Reds works great for classics like Pad Kee Mao or giving Pad Thai a kick. For something like Pad Kaprao Moo Kai Dow or Thai curries, I’d recommend the Smoke Show. Either works, Smoke Show has a deeper smokier roasted flavor. Also, I’d highly recommend making your own Prik Nam Pla, and if you’re looking for more heat, if you have exotic peppers like Ghost Peppers, tossing one of those in finely diced. Where I live (SE PDX) Thai chilis are dirt cheap at the asian markets, there’s a lot of fun stuff you can do with those.

Usually thai chilis, some batches are stronger than others. Get into the hot pepper oils in the asian stores if you want some burnnnn.

It looks ok.The kind I grew up on, we would roast the peppers, grind them into a powder, then add our own blend of spices on top. It cannot be made indoors, and, should not be made without PPE. I have to go to Mom and pop shops where I’m at. 1/4 to 1/2 a teaspoon with make anything quite warm.

I think you are much better off getting the stuff that is in oil, like Lao Gan Ma. That stuff is insanely good, really brings out that umami flavor. This might just be like any old ground spice.

Get some birds eye chili powder. It’s available on amazon. Just a dash of that can make anything “Thai hot”

Better off with whole chilis, too much seeds is never nice

Well it certainly won’t be Vietnam spice, that’s for sure.

I’ve had this before it’s good. Thai dried chilis tend to be smokier and have more flavor than standard red pepper flakes but have way more of a kick than something like Korean fried chilis. Unsurprisingly, goes great with Thai flavor profiles. Love to make some drunken noodles or pad see ew and just light it on fire with a handful of these.
