There is a local coffee shop in every corner of the block. Baristas are chill af and friendly as well. No wonder big corporates are failing to compete here. Prices are so cheap here as well.

Their coffee is taste bold and strong. Not much complexity and no hint of acidity. I heard it is because they use full robusta blends. Local shops do not have big espresso machines but drip coffee which they call “Phin”. Their coffee hits like a truck and people aren’t lying. “Brown coffee” which I think is their drip mixed with some kind of concentrated milk and sugar is my favourite till now. Planning to hit every cafes near my hotel until I leave.

Enjoying my trip here in Vietnam. Planning to buy loads of beans from here.

I love the coffee drinking experience in Vietnam. You can go to a Western style shop for a cup or if you want a chill experience, go to a caphe vĩa hè for a more serene atmosphere. They tend to go heavy on the condensed milk so you can ask for less milk or black. I’m not really in love with the “espresso” that robusta gives as I believe they cut their beans with cocoa powder for a more chocolatey licorice flavor profile, but it is delicious with condensed milk.

Vietnamese here, been drinking Phin cafe for years, then get hit with kalita, v60 and espresso machines, they’re brilliant but I’d enjoy some Phin cafe every now and then. To those don’t know what a “Phin” is, it is basically a flatbed dripper usually used without any paper or cloth filter. The coffee is strong, bitter (100% Robusta is the norm here) and often served with condensed milk. We also have specialty shops serving espresso based drinks, most them serve a blend of VN Arabica & Robusta, price is also cheap, range about $2-$5 per cup and $5 is considered a fancy coffee here lolz.

I second your sentiment towards the coffee culture in Vietnam. Other worldly . So many cool shops I could not keep list. But there is a list out there. Ahn Coffee Roastery has a special place in my coffee filled heart
