I bought a whole pork belly from Costco and I originally thought it was skinless which I was disappointed with.
However, now when I've taken it out, I am confused and have no idea.
On the surface, it kind of looks like fat and it leaves an indent when I run my finger along it.
However from the side angle, the top layer looks a lot like skin? So now I am confused and I'm sorry for this dumb question 😂

Looks to be just fat. I don’t see any separation for the skin and no hair follicles.
Fat

That is all fat, it looks like a nice select belly.
Render down the fat and enjoy.
That’s just fat
No nipples, fat.
I’ve bought these from Costco plenty of times and they’re never skinned. Pre Packed from Swift. Just test the theory stick your finger in the top of it if you can’t penetrate the top that’s definitely skin if it’s fat you’d be able to poke your finger right into it.
I’d smoke that and then cut it into bacon strips! I’m sure it will be delicious no matter how you cook it 🙂
It’s fat. Skinless is typically how I’ve seen it at Costco. You’ll have better success finding skin on, generally speaking, at Asian & Latino markets.
It’s fat. If you have a Costco business center in your area you’ll be able to find some with fat. They always have them
Fat for sure.
Pork skin is almost identical to your skin in appearance and thickness. Look at your arm, then look at the pork belly. Does it look anything like what’s on your arm?
TL;DR That’s skinless pork belly.
Skin looks and feels so different from fat you would have zero question if there was skin on it. Color is uniform, there is no texture difference, no “layer” of skin, etc. Did you try asking a worker for information? Googling what pig skin looks like, or use your brain and think through the question you have?
Why is taking a picture and posting to an online forum the replacement for common sense logic? Don’t be sorry for posting a stupid question, next time just don’t post it.
Oh yeah, thats fat. I got a slab of pork belly from local butcher, and they failed to mention it still had skin on. Spent a good half hour struggling to remove it. Its a PITA.
Probably fat? Don’t see any skin textures 🤔
Cut a 1/2 inch by 1 inch piece off and put into hot oil, if it puffs up, like a store bought bag of pork rinds, it’s skin. If it does nothing it is fat. I’ve cooked many a whole hog, skin on, skin down and nobody eats that part – it just kind of protects the meat from the direct heat during a long cook. There was a dude at the flea market where I grew up that would make fresh pork rinds, he had a cauldron of hot oil, put in about a cup of pre-cut skin pieces and BAM in a minute you had fried pork rinds, little seasoning and ready to eat – so good. The skin is also very tough and hard to cut with a knife that isn’t absolutely razor sharp
That looks like fat. Skins is a more slightly yellow appearance compared to the fat.
Looks like fat the skin is leathery
What is someone who can’t identify a skinless pork belly planning to do with an entire skinless pork belly 😅
Looks like fat to me
Subcutaneous fat
Fat, no nipples hehe
I always look for the nipple to make sure it’s skin.

Bro if you have a smoker, pork belly burn ends marinated and basted in Masterpiece Steakhouse marinade is divine.
Yes
Render and make lard. I use it for everything.
if it’s skin it will be VERY obvious, like pimples and nipples and cuts and scrapes would all be visible, also a few stray hairs. THe photo quality isnt super clear. but I dont see any skin. I like to cut off the nipples and wear them over my own, shirtless, to creep out my family. Good luck with the belly!
If it’s skin there will be dimples and hairs
That’s belly. Make some bacon!
You’re lucky to have that much added pork fat. Save it and make pork pies with homemade cold water pastry.
It’s fat
Fatty skin??? Skinny fat???
Yes
Bathe it in hot oil.
Its fat, no skin. As a Romaniam i’m somewhat a connoisseur when it comes to pig skin, we eat lots of it during Christmas time.
That is just fat. The skin has been removed. If you went skin on go to an Asian market and get there pork
Belly.
For sure way to tell if it’s just fat or it’s the skin is by the nipples. If the meat has nipples the skin is still on if they don’t they the skin has Been cut off.
It says it on the label and some Costco do carry both so you have to check to make sure but this is skin-less
Whole belly? Ribs and all? How many pounds is it?
