The Lake Almanor Elks Lodge No. 2626 in Chester announces it will host its ninth annual Soup Supper Nov. 1. This event is a fundraiser for the Elks Christmas Angels program, which each year provides families in need with winter gear and gifts.

The Soup Supper costs $20 a person, which entitles participants to taste a variety of 12 different soups prepared by members of the Elks Lodge or their spouses, along with homemade breads and desserts.

The event also includes a silent auction with more than 25 items. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the tasting beginning at 5:45. Tickets are limited. The Elks are also offering a special event recipe book for $8 that includes recipes for all the goodies from the evening.

Organizers say the Christmas Angel project, started in 2007, serves families in the Lake Almanor basin who are less fortunate by providing each child with a new warm coat, snow boots, gloves, hat, a book and an educational toy plus additional gifts if funds allow. Families can submit children’s special Santa “asks” and the shopping angels try to provide at least one of those items for that child.

Since 2020, the project has also partnered with the Almanor Basin Food Pantry to provide these families with fresh food for a happy healthy holiday, say the Elks. To date, the program has provided more than 680 children with a better holiday season, said organizers.
