My dad gave me these. I usually get canned sardines in water, mustard, or sometimes oil, but never in tomato sauce. And these are obviously not sardines. Can anyone suggest a recipe?

I usually pair these with a fork! No recipe needed.

As it says on the tin: “ready to eat”. I just eat them on flatbread. They’re delicious.

They are a little sweet so I eat them with salty crackers and a slice of cucumber.

Always had bad luck with herring. Still looking though. Really want to try pickled herring and creamed herring

I love this on some dark toasted bread with some raw onion slices. Sometimes a little horseradish if I’m feeling spicy. Makes a great snack. If you wanted to make this more of a meal it’s really great on a baked potato with a little sour cream.

With onions on bread, some salty crackers, or with a fork by itself are some options.

I usually just put this kind over freshly cooked rice. I’ve never had the tomato sauce, though I have it in my pantry. I’ve tried and very much like the pineapple and mango ones.

I usually serve these over a bed of noodles with a splash of vinegar, soy sauce, and olive oil.

After you try these, get a plain can of smoke herring fillets, because herring is a more delicate flavor compared to sardines and they are friggin delicious! …not to discourage you, but the idea of putting these in a tomato sauce is a horrible pairing because of the acidity and the overpowering flavor of a tomato sauce. OF COURSE ..this all subjective, what we think “tastes good” so don’t fucking downvote me (not you OP) for simply offering you my opinion, of course, this is reddit, so I probably need to have my head examined for even typing that! 😂

..another pointer, people became obsessed with removing oil from everything because of the calories and the canning houses making far more profit by omitting and oil! “oily” fish needs to be preserved in oil because that’s where all the flavor is AND the omega fatty acids, so it’s practically criminal IMO for this to have happened. Water DILUTES the flavor. The canning process boils the fish for preservation, so that water everybody pours off, is just like pouring off the most valuable part of what you’re buying….ok enough. Sorry for going on like I do..

Insert fork, guide fork to mouth, yum!

I actually ate a can of these today. Just ate on saltines with a dash of hot sauce. Delicious lunch. No one ever buys them at my Aldi so I get to stock up! They’d be good over rice and some scallions too.
