It has not expired yet (expires on Nov 6) and it’s been refrigerated the whole time. I just opened it and found this. I’ve been buying this regularly and this is my first time seeing this white stuff. It’s only in this packet and not in the other half—look at the last picture showing the other half packet. Is this mold?

It’s fine. It’s like when salt water dries out and leaves behind that white dust. It’s just salt

I don’t know why but at first I read it as “shame sticks.” Which I guess they would be if you took a bite 😂

Penicillium Nalgiovense, or possibly salt and grease, either way it’s good for you

I work in a cold storage. This is most likely salt. When salted meats get too cold the salt leaches out. The customer will tell us to dispose of them because they have “salted out”. Its pretty common. Might taste a little off, but probably safe to eat.

P.s. it is possible that if left out to long it could be mold. Eat at your own risk. Lol

  6. That’s definitely salt leeching out. Look up Fuet sticks.
