I was lucky to attend to this set tasting and friends and friends of friends brought in these very, very special burgs, as well as a champagne, for one lovely night.

  • Jacques Selosse V.O. Blanc de Blancs (IIRC deg' at 2017)
    • Lots of bubbles but not a thick mousse on top of it, deep golden in the glass, (see P5)
    • Apple pie, green apple, brioche, a bit of oak,
    • Electric acidity! And it got punchier and punchier. Almost too high of it but great pairing with the fried fish dish.
  • 2020 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes
    • Both nose and palate were reductive, creamy, popcorn, vanilla, and IMO a bit lack of finish length. A few more years of aging would have helped I think.
  • 2018 Arnaud Ente Meursault Clos des Ambres
    • Nose was slightly reductive but less than the Lafon, more acidity in it I think,
    • Palate: white flower, mineral, a bit lean, creamy and vanilla but not overshadowing other elements,
    • Pleasantly long finish, powerful yet still luring you to have another sip.
  • 1999 Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts (Magnum)
    • In decanter for two hours before serving,
    • Most of the time: black fruits, blackberry, black current, cinnamon, spices,
    • Tannins were well integrated and still felt at peak, with youth and power, very much drinkable but with complexity as well. Friends said of its resemblance to an aged Bordeaux which I agreed.
    • After 40 minutes or so came forest floor and a hint of mint, how enjoyable!
  • 2007 Domaine Leroy Richebourg
    • Had a sniff upon opening – a bit mushroom there but already sensing a great structure to unfold,
    • Also in a decanter (but with narrower airing surface) for two hours before serving,
    • Looked medium ruby in the glass with visibliy light rim (P4),
    • Nose was somewhat interesting, I would say a pure perfume overall, with some red fruits, forest floor, mushroom after some air time. However, in the middle of drinking it kind of displayed a strong green pepper favor which I had experienced with a cult wine (of which I am not going to name here…)
    • Palate was complicated, powerful and nothing like others: savory, some spices, rose petals, mint, forest floor, a hint of mushroom, black truffle as well; and these elements rotated vibrantly and made you wonder at each sip.
    • The finish was a miracle, a powerhouse that left me stunned for at least half a minute (not trying to exaggerate here lol).
