Is it bad my favorite sushi I’ve ever had is from wegmans? It beats every restaurant I’ve tried around me. They nail the rice and the fish is fresh and it’s just all around really fkin good. If you haven’t tried and have a wegmans near you I highly recommend

Wegmans sushi is pretty good, especially by grocery store sushi standards, but the restaurants around you must be doing something wrong.
I wish i had a wegmans here
Wegmans is good for grocery store sushi, but there is something seriously wrong with the restaurants around you if this is better than all of them.
You should go to better restaurants, lmao.
In had the same issue, best sushi was the grocery store but i discovered a omakase near me, will try it next occasion
I’ve never had bad grocery store sushi. That being said, that stuff can’t compete with even the cheapest sushi restaurant around here
I think Wegmans sushi is great.
A pro tip for those who get Wegmans sushi. If it’s a fish they have in stock, they can make custom sushi orders. For instance my partner and I love yellowtail but don’t like the green onion. So we’ll order it without, and they usually say come back in 5-10min and it’s ready.
Like all sushi, I think it really depends on the skills and experience of the workers hired
If everyone could perfect it and make it at home, they could and would
But it’s hard
You can ask them to make any roll that is in the case fresh for you too, that way the rice is still warm for you. When I ran one of their sushi bars I would always tell people that I can make them rolls fresh because of the difference it makes in the quality of the roll.
Another Wegmans sushi fanboy, Everytime I’m downtown I head to Wegmans. I may stop by there today and pick up some. It’s not my favorite sushi but it’s not the worst sushi I’ve ever had either.
Nailing the sushi rice is critical 🤙
It’s mediocre compared to my local sushi restaurants , but it’s by far my favorite grocery store sushi.
It’s not bad, because taste is subjective. It is kind of shocking and I think it either speaks to the lack of quality restaurants around you or your own ideas of what “good sushi” is. For example, if you like your rice a certain way and it didn’t match the texture of what the sushi authorities would consider “proper for sushi”, and only Wegman’s produced sushi with that texture of rice, you are more likely to find it good. So, hypothetically, if you preferred a soft, mushy rice over firm grains, then if wouldn’t matter if the inventor of sushi themself said that Wegman’s wasn’t authentic or correct, you would still prefer what appeals to your own individual tastes.
Wegmans nails everything tbh
Honestly in this economy, store sushi is really starting to approach the level of Japanese Konbini sushi, and that’s not a bad thing.
*Every* restaurant?? No way.
Either you live in a rural area nowhere near a metropolitan city, or you just have a particular taste for supermarket sushi.
They arent nailing any rice if they’re serving it cold. You need better restaurants if if they’re failing this comparison.
I love getting sushi from Kroger! We don’t have a wegmans, but it looks comparable as far as what you took a pic of!
Wegman’s makes decent sushi for being premade takeout but the fact that it’s the best you’ve ever had just means you haven’t been to very good sushi restaurants
Wegmans sushi is definitely one of the better supermarket sushi pickups. Just not in the evening. Not sure what happened the last time I got some, but it wasn’t good whatsoever.
Wegmans sushi is awesome and if you don’t live in a city with good sushi restaurants it’s entirely possible it’s better.
What is Wegmans/which country?
What the hell is a Wegmans?
I like wegman’s poke bowls. Haven’t tried their sushi
Its also my favorite.
Just because it’s Wegmans doesn’t mean there aren’t qualified staff.
It’s pretty good for grocery store sushi, but PLEASE go to better restaurants lol. Grocery store sushi will never compare because first of all it’s refrigerated (unless you’re getting it freshly made I suppose), which is already going to degrade the quality. The rice should be warm and relatively soft (but still firm enough to hold its shape), the fish should be roughly room temperature.
That’s how I feel about the Salmon Delight from HEB. It’s my favorite and comes from the grocery store
Is that the Pittsford wegmans? It looks like their dining area
When I visited Virginia I had their sushi for the first time. Very good! We dont have Wegmans here in the PNW
That first box is an amazing deal. Was that recent?
I have always said this and people always doubt me! Wegmans has the BEST sushi. Now, have I had better at restaurants? Definitely yes. However if I get a craving for sushi, the first place I am going to is Wegmans.
Not bad. I’d rather hit the Snowfox in Hannaford’s than go to any of the places in the same 30 minute radius. At least at the grocery store, the quality matches the price. Otherwise it’s twice or thrice the price for the same freshness of fish, but the rice isn’t right.
yes
mmm perfect for dinner
Maybe not a popular opinion but sometimes once in a blue moon when the rice is done right and the fish is as fresh as it could be, a supermarket sushi chef can make something out of nothing. I would never discount any sushi establishment because sometimes very tasty things come out of inexpensive places. This opinion coming from someone who’s tried the cheapest of the cheap (potato burgers in India for 15 cents) to $500 meals from Joel Robuchon.
