I got a case of 2020 CLB’s and thought it’d be fun to try the flagship. And hey, it was so good I ended up opening both of them.
Nose of roses, smoke and spices. On the palate we were immediately met with a gritty rigidity and an almost overwhelming amount of smoke and firecracker-like spices – as if you just took in a mouthful of cigar smoke. Only when this subsided were we met by a joyous amount of blackberries, strawberries, a slight hint of mushrooms and rose petals. Strong tannins led to a very long and dry finish, remnants of firecracker and berries.
After 2+ hours, you can almost taste an ocean of secondary and tertiary notes of cocoa, damp forest floor and cloves waiting to burst out behind the grippy tanins. But then again, you know they won’t be for many years to come. At its full potential? Barely. But a wine of this caliber, this young, is an experience in its own right. 98 pointer since it has room to grow, but no less than a 10/10 experience. Absolutely no regrets opening them.

I guess they’d taste fine, for a weekday.

I worked Les Vendages harvest there in 2009. It was a once in a lifetime experience.. incredible wines from a great vintner. Magical place.

Ha. At first thought this was a reference to the case purchase and paying for two kids’ education. Then I saw the bottles. I’m still reading as a double entendre for my own enjoyment.
Incredible. Would say I hope you enjoyed, but I know you did!
