This sweet and spicy dinner side uses an unexpected ingredient to create the perfect flavor balance. In this video, Nicole makes apple pie baked beans with browned spicy sausage, barbecue sauce, and a can of apple pie filling! The sweetness of the pie filling and the spiciness of the browned sausage gives these baked beans a game-changing depth of flavor.

Apparently, a secret ingredient to the best baked beans, apple pie filling. Start out by browning some spicy sausage. Listen, it’s already starting to make sense. Sausage and apples just goes together, plus sweet and spicy. And then in goes onion and bell pepper. Two cans of baked beans. Drain off any of the excess sauce that comes to the top of the can. For the moment of truth, in with our apple pie. I think you’re going to like it. Okay, now we jij it up. Then you’re going in with barbecue sauce, a little mustard, a little worshshire, and like a barbecue rub seasoning. Sort of want to break up the apples so you can’t see them as much. So that it’s our little secret. It’s kind of mind-blowing. That’s delicious. It lends the perfect amount of sweetness to balance out the spicy. 10 out of 10. This works. First, I thought it was a joke. This is no laughing matter.

  1. Nicole- love your recipes and your videos. Your apple pie filling (and its spicing) used with savory meat baked beans reminds me of the French blend Quatre Epices which is used for both roast meats and baking. And gives great rounded flavors!

  2. ❤😊 OMGeeeee….you are so totally cool. Love beans and think this one will be fun to make!!! 🎉 Thank you 🎉

  3. It does make perfect sense! I've doing the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire and a little honey with a touch of BBQ sauce for years and sometimes I add a little hot seasoning or sauce. I make my own jalapeno dry seasoning, from our garden to the bottle!❤👍👍

  4. So much sugar if you made it from scratch or at least partially from scratch like just add apples would be so much better

  5. Nooooo sweet beans 🫘- I’m Latina o like it with hot sauce! But Asians and Americans like it sweet! Oh well 🎉

  6. First time watching your videos 😊I’m definitely going to try this before thanksgiving it looks amazing!!!! thank you for sharing ❤❤❤❤❤

  7. My mom used to mix a large can of drained yams or sweet taters with a can of apple pie filling. Bake covered until hot and bubbling. Uncover, throw on some chopped pecans, brown sugar mixed with a dash of cinnamon and bake 10-15 more minutes… My dad really loved it.

  8. ❤️Looks delicious. I do something similar but needs hickory smoked bacon, molasses, coarse pepper, and at least 4x more mustard. 😉
