Made a long black this morning and decided to sweeten it slightly with a bit of Luxardo cherry syrup. I call it a Long Luxardo — and it’s quite tasty.

Rich espresso bitterness meets that subtle cherry sweetness… kinda feels like the coffee version of an Old Fashioned.

Please ignore the messy machine.

I’ve been drinking [this coffee](https://www.heb.com/product-detail/cafe-ol-by-h-e-b-reserve-single-origin-whole-bean-colombia-anaerobic-coffee/12146015) I found at HEB lately, which has a really prominent cherry note. If the flavor of the “long luxardo” is anything like a long black made with this coffee, I bet it’s absolutely wonderful.

How strong is the cherry flavor though? I’m interested to try making one but i’m drinking this coffee for the foreseeable future and I don’t want the flavor of cherry to overpower everything else.

  2. I’ve got a mega can of them that I was gifted a while ago. Thanks for the inspiration

  3. Interesting. Tomorrow I plan to try to make a cappuccino with homemade pea milk… I suspect your result will be better than mine.

  4. my local shop has a cherry mocha that adds a small amount of cherry syrup and its delicious. been working on replicating it at home and I may need to try this as my cherry flavor

Oh, I have to try this! I have a wide selection of bourbons and love a good old Fashioned, so I ALWAYS have Luxardo cherries, but I’m always at a loss for what to do with the leftover syrup. I tried using it in place of the maple syrup that I usually use in my Old Fashioned recipe and it was…not good. I’ve resorted to only using it on ice cream. It’ll be great if I have a second use for it!

Yep, I always save the syrup left in the jar for stuff like this. It’s liquid gold.
