Vegan Turkish Pizza (Lahmacun)

Lahmacun is one of my favorite Turkish recipes. Usually made with meat, this vegan recipe showcases all of the same bold Mediterranean flavors but made with a hearty vegetable mixture, tangy pomegranate molasses and warm spices.

This Turkish pizza, also called lak majun, is one of the most popular and flavor-packed street foods in Turkey. If you’re looking for your next dinner idea and love bold flavors, you’ll definitely want to save this one. Start by pulsing loads of fresh vegetables until a fine consistency similar to salsa. And then strain out any excess liquid so the meat mixture doesn’t get too wet. Now add that to some ground lamb along with an array of bold spices, paprika, cumin, turmeric, dried mint, and tangy sumac. And give everything a good mix. Now, to keep this a weekn night recipe, I’m using store-bought pizza dough. So, divide that into four pieces, roll it thin, and then press that meat mixture right onto the dough. Pop it into a very hot oven. And after a few minutes, the pizza is perfectly golden brown with crispy edges, and that juicy spice meat mixture right on top. Now, for the toppings, add fresh chopped salad, tangy sumac onions, a sprinkle of Aleppo pepper for a little heat, and a generous squeeze of fresh lemon juice. And my personal touch is a creamy tahini drizzle for even more flavor. Roll it up like they do in Turkey or eat it flat. How good does that look?

  1. Repeat recipe, and worth repeating! I made this and it was delicious! Next time I think I will do a tzatziki sauce instead of a tahini dressing
