A while ago I asked for help recreating a tea sandwich spread — thanks to this group it was a success. https://www.reddit.com/r/Old_Recipes/s/mr6C8t3tN4

I used it to make a celebration sandwich loaf cake with three layers. Bottom: salmon and pickle; middle: egg salad; top: velveeta and maraschino cherry. This combo is based off how my grandma used to make it.

I “iced” the whole with cream cheese and a bit of sour cream and decorated with vegetable shapes. Served at a baby shower to initial suspicion and then acclaim. Please forgive my piping skills!

Yum! This is called smörgåstårta in Sweden. My DIL makes beautiful ones too!

That’s beautiful! My last attempt at finger sandwiches with a cream cheese/cuke filling was in a pumpernickle bread, and the bread stood up well to the filling. If I was to make this I would probably use pumpernickle in one of the layers at least. Well done!

Gorgeous! I’ve been wanting to do something even half as good as this!

Well done and glad it was a hit!! 🙂

Velveeta and maraschino? I can’t imagine that combo. Velveeta and pimento I can imagine.

    Edit to add… It’s beautiful ❤️

So how well does Velveeta pair with maraschino cherries? Im intrigued by the combination.

The piping is nice. No need to forgive it. Most people would not have been able to do this nice of a presentation; let alone pipe it.

I collect vintage cookbooks and sometimes see this kind of thing in an old Betty Crocker book or some such. I never want to make one, but I’d certainly try one, and I’d *definitely* try this one! It looks delicious!

Did you use white bread for the “cake?” I’ve heard of these but have never seen one “in the wild” before – this is beautiful!

This is beautiful! It takes me back to the 60s! I was afraid to try it back then. 😆 Still am, but I love the idea of it!
