The next play from the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts will be “The Art of Dining,” directed by Janet Wilson. The play will be centered around a restaurant in the Jersey Shore and the dramatic situations that unfold.
Wilson detailed the process of putting the play together as well as what audiences can expect.
“What is unique about putting this particular play together is we have an entire kitchen and restaurant on stage,” Wilson said. “The sheer number of props — pots and pans, bowls, plates, wine glasses, food processors, mixers, etc. — is staggering for this production.”
Wilson says that audiences can expect humor, absurdity and the opportunity to savor the foods they consume. In addition, they can view dining from a fresh perspective. While the play is comedic, she advises students to be aware of serious topics discussed, such as disordered eating, body image and self-harm.
Wilson stated in her director’s note what she believes to be the core of the production.
“‘The Art of Dining’ is an invitation to all of us to relish and savor our food, to eat mindfully in the company of loved ones and friends. It is a sensual experience,” Wilson said.
