🧂 Ingredients
For the Apple Filling:
– 1 to 2 medium apples
– 1 tbsp unsalted butter
– 2 tbsp brown sugar
– ½ tsp cinnamon powder
– A pinch of salt

For the Dough:
– ½ cup lukewarm milk
– 3 tbsp sugar
– 2 tsp active dry yeast
– ¼ cup melted unsalted butter
– 1 large egg
– 2 cups whole wheat flour
– ¼ tsp salt

For the Cream Cheese Filling:
– ¼ cup cream cheese
– 2 tbsp heavy cream
– 1 tsp condensed milk

For Brushing:
– 1 small egg

🥣 Instructions
For the Apple Filling:
– Remove the apple core and chop it into small cubes
– Add butter, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt
– Cook over low to medium heat until the apples soften and the juice thickens

For the bun:
– In a bowl, combine lukewarm milk and sugar. Add yeast and let it rest for about 10 minutes, or until the yeast is activated
– Add melted butter and egg to the wet mixture and mix well
– In a separate bowl, mix together whole wheat flour and salt
– Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and knead for 8–10 minutes until you get a soft, smooth dough
– Cover and let the dough rest for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size
– Once proofed, divide the dough into two halves
– Take one half and divide it into 6 equal dough balls
– Place the dough balls in a mini pie pan or small round mold and flatten each one to about 1 cm thickness
– Divide the other half of the dough into 6 equal balls. Roll each one into long thin strips about 40–45 cm (16–18 inches) long, as shown in the video
– Cut each strip in half lengthwise and braid them by pinching one end together
– Form each braid into a circle and pinch the ends to seal
– Place the braided ring on top of the flattened dough in the mold
– Cover and let the buns proof again for 25–30 minutes
– For the cream cheese filling, mix together cream cheese, heavy cream, and condensed milk until smooth and creamy
– Spoon a few tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture on top of the proofed buns
– Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25–27 minutes, or until golden brown
– Top the baked buns with the prepared apple filling
– Serve warm or cooled — and enjoy!
