Sourdough is my favourite form of art and every loaf is a brand new canvas.
With this batard I used a large comb (no, I don’t use this in anyone’s hair) for a quick, dotted grid, then I added some small wheat sheaves to make it extra pretty. A big slash to open it up and voila! I just love how it baked up!
Scoring does take a few extra minutes, but I think it was worth it. Sometimes I keep it super simple and other times, more elaborate.
How about you? What’s your sourdough scoring style?

I absolutely love how this loaf of bread turned out. This is a simple guitar that I scored using a large comb. No, I don’t use this for my hair, but it does create a beautiful dotted pattern. And if you know me, you know I love a grid-like pattern on sourdough. It almost ends up looking like a little cute purse. You can add little details into the middle and it just is so pretty. You can fill them all up or just make it random. Finish it off with a nice big slash in the middle to open it beautifully. Look at this one. At the 5minute mark, I just took a peek to see how it was doing and I left it alone because it was so pretty. Love, love, love how this turned out. Whether you’re going to enjoy it yourself or gift it to a friend, this form of art is one of my favorites.
