I always get the freshly made food (usually on sale at end of day) sold near checkout and in the hot shelves of HMart, but have never tried their soups and pickled stuff. I've never had a problem other than mislabelling or spice so far. So I was eyeing any of the beef soups, since those take a long time to prepare, I'm not confident in making things properly, and these prices are appealing— but they worry me for the same reason lol. Can anyone share your experiences trying them, good or bad?

The soups are not bad. Buy extra ingredients and add them if you’d like.

  2. I never tried their soups/stews but the banchans are pretty good and the chicken skewers if you can find them.

Dayum, if I were single this would be a regular thing. You can stretch out so many meals with these.

I like them too. I’ll heat them up in a ddukbaegi earthenware pot, and also add things like sliced pepper, chopped onion, more tofu etc., depending on the specific soup or stew.

They are salty. Good for if you are feeling lazy. But taste is off.

  6. The bagged soups in the cold aisle are better IMHO.

Is the soy bean grind soup biji or doenjjang?

I’ve always wanted to try the kongbiji but I can’t find the tofu dregs, if that’s what they’re called?

  8. Chunggookjang is the way to go. Brown some beef and add the stew. Stinky stinky but sooo good.

  9. I’ve bought many of the soups because its a cheap meal. They all lack in flavor IMO.

Damn for those prices, I would buy them just to try them out. The hmart near me sells the soups for like $8 (I live in a HCOL area)

They’re not bad at all, solid when you’re feeling too lazy to cook and can go multiple meals. At those prices, they’re a solid budget meal option too

I tried kimchi stew and it tasted like ketchup 🤷‍♀️
