somethin about a fool and his money

  3. bellaswine

That actually looks really good. What did you order tho?

  4. bingtanghooloo

This where they sell 20$ for 1 single strawberry? I cant

  5. Here’s the attention you’re seeking. Happy?

If I’m spending that much, it’s going to be on a proper plate, with real eating utensils, a waiter/waitress and not at a grocery store.

I think it’s this weird thing there where the combo is just by weight. So a heavier combo costs more than a lighter one. It’s not like you get three things for a certain price.

    (1) They’re well-known for their prices, and (2) that looks like a lot of food. That would probably still run $20-30 at many places in Los Angeles.

I am currently in Thailand for a couple months and was almost offended at the prices on the island of Koh Samui – I had to pay $4 for a Banh Mi and I thought it was outrageous, tho very very tasty.

Seeing posts like this from home just depress me. I don’t see it as the company doing good like paying their workers significantly more (it seems around the same as Vons). I don’t see it as the company using substantially better ingredients that can demonstrate the percentage in price difference.

My company used to sell to Erewhon and they sold our products at our SRP – so no markup any different from any other retailer. In fact, they charged a bit less for our most expensive product and customers would come into the shop and complain we were charging too much haha

But if anyone works for Erewhon I’d love to know how much the suppliers are being paid and how much of a markup they do.

I got two Big Macs today for 6 dollars (BOGO). I think I prefer the Big Mac too.

  11. Gotkimchirice

Looks like an elementary school cafeteria meal that’s $10

lol this is pretty much what I got for dinner (plus a cornbread)

Or I could go to Houston’s, get a burger, salad, fries and desert for cheaper. Or go to innnout and buy enough food to feed a small country.

  14. Worked next door to one construction. Everyday I would drive somewhere else for lunch or drinks.

  15. Jasminscent

Yikes! Could’ve gotten some quality sushi with that amount

  16. d3fault

Erewhon… where you pay $20 cash and finance the rest of your $54 lunch. 🤦‍♂️

I hated on this place due to a few vapids I knew extolling it.Then I got sick and my gf sent me a Caesar salad and burrito while I was getting better and they were both so good for being from a grocery store. I’d never go there for a gimmicky $15 smoothie or whatever but compared to other ready made places it’s pretty damn good and convenient. Whole Foods ready made shit all sucks and is similar in price.

  18. Lack-Professional

To be fair, there is a $30 stupid tax

  19. ch3rryela

sometimes I go to erewhon bc they sell a bunch of wild carrots for like 5 dollars (carrots with the stems on) and all it takes is some olive oil and seasoning and it’s a fun snack … these are weirdly hard to find.

I genuinely don’t understand what makes people decide to make it their primary grocery store. lol.

  20. ubiquitousanathema

too broke to even get a $30 smoothie smh

  21. howmuchfortheoz

And you all complain about how everything is expensive

  22. Flipperbites

Because everything is premade, you’re basically eating leftovers when you think about it. The food is mediocre, and people who are into appearances feel better about themselves when they overspend on lunch. I would rather go to a food truck and eat truly delicious food.

The Kale and White Bean Salad at Erewhon is the best I’ve ever had for a grocery store deli. Ditto the Balsamic-Glazed Brussels Sprouts. I know it’s expensive but there is a lot of reverse snobbery about these spots just because of influencers etc.

Bristol Farms and Gelson’s put Erewhon to shame.

Erewhon is a tourist trap, for locals and non…or as many have already put it, “ a status symbol”

Bristol Farms and Gelson’s are real solid grocers. I don’t know of another company in any industry that actually lives up to their mission statement better than Gelson’s ma does theirs: “To make shopping anywhere else unacceptable for consumers who value quality products, cleanliness, convenience, and personal service.”

I’ll take Bristol Farms or Gelson’s 10/10 times over Erewhon.

Stupidity in all of its glory…$55 for a supermarket take out box? What’s that saying? A Fool and his money are soon parted….or something like that lol

  26. ElCoolAero

    Every minute.

    There’s one born every minute.

  27. ToadtheGreat21

Some nice restaurants in Beverly Hills do a 3 course pre-fixe lunch for less than that. I would just eat there.

  28. The thing that everyone forgets, or probably don’t know is that Vons, Ralphs, Albertsons, Safeway, Slater Bros and most supermarkets are all considered ‘C’ or ‘D’ grade food markets.. of course they don’t advertise as such, but its just what everyone is used to price wise, on the other hand everything in Erewhon is Grade B Organic all, if not the majority of the ingredients in everything that they sell… so theres that which explains the price of real food items that are now considered high quality and mad expensive
