Everyone knows that Sunday evenings revolve around a good, hearty dinner and quality time with loved ones. Sundays at Lou’s by Horizon are no different. Only here, it all comes in a beautifully restored heritage winery with a backdrop of the rolling Barossa vineyards – and a menu that transports you straight to the Mediterranean coastline.
After three years of serving long lunches that blend Mediterranean flavour with Barossan freshness, Lou’s by Horizon is extending its offering into the evening with the launch of Sunday dinners. It’s an obvious next step for the vineyard restaurant, where food, wine, warmth, and atmosphere have continued to set the perfect tone for all kinds of get-togethers.
The new dinner service gives Executive Chef A’kash and his team the chance to expand the menu and introduce a few dishes that shine after dark.
Leading the evening lineup are wood-roasted meats, including a smoky 300-gram Black Angus steak, grilled to perfection and bathed in Shiraz jus, and a lamb rack bathed in garlic and rosemary. They sit alongside creamy beef carpaccio with pickled mushroom, and crispy buttermilk chicken with lemon feta. Or settle in for something hearty with ‘Nonna’s gnocchi’ – pillowy puffs made fresh daily, served in a slow-cooked Roma tomato passata, and finished with fresh cream.

It’s the kind of menu designed for sharing and for lingering, with a selection of small plates and antipasto platters available to leisurely graze over as the sun dips behind the vines, before easing into mains. Or better still, let them feed you. Sundays aren’t made for hard decisions, after all.
Dessert takes a lighter turn too, with passionfruit panna cotta hitting all the zesty notes, but there’s crispy date and pistachio filo with toffee ice cream that sings to those who like to finish with decadence.

Being set within a working winery, the drinks list at Lou’s is no afterthought. They pour from their own vineyard collection alongside a curated lineup of Mediterranean-inspired drops, from crisp Prosecco and fruit-driven rosé to rich Shiraz Cuvée. Guests can explore the range through tasting flights or by the glass, pairing perfectly with the new evening dishes. And for the little ones or those skipping the alcohol, there’s a thoughtful selection of spritzes, juices, and zero-alc options too.
Since opening on the grounds of Lou Miranda Estate, Lou’s by Horizon has become a popular Barossa spot. Behind it is husband-and-wife duo Chef A’kash and Shali, who have built the restaurant around shared values of generosity and connection. A’kash brings decades of fine-dining experience from kitchens across Dubai, Oman, and Europe, while Shali’s background in luxury event management ensures every detail, from service all the way to setting, feels considered.
With Sunday dinners now underway – and extended hours throughout the festive season – there’s no better time to unwind. Gather your people, enjoy food from across the Mediterranean with local drops from South Australia’s premier wine region, and hang around at this Barossan gem a little longer.
