Sunday morning. 5th st. Location downtown.
Same style, lox bagel as it’s served with plain bagel, plain cream cheese.
Let me start by saying that these trips are just for fun, and I won’t assume to be an expert, nor do I think anything around here will compare to what all of the New York implants will consider “authentic”.

I’ll also say that there was a lot going on this morning at this location as someone was handing out free food to the folks in the plaza, so the restroom which shares a building with Rosens was pretty active. IYKYK.

All that being said… based off of this visit, and this visit alone…
This was so far my least favorite.
It had a ton of cream cheese and very little lox, capers, onions. Proportions were way off.
My wife got the lemon basil schmear and said it was very good. And her topping proportions seemed more spot on.

Bagel was very chewy, and had good flavor on its own, but as it was served the creaminess overpowered everything.

Cold brew was yummy.
$14.50 for the bagel.

I’d be interested to check out their Burnet location and see if there’s a difference; and try it with one of the flavored cream cheeses.

Don’t waste your time on Burnet. Same lackluster product.

Rosens on burnet is my favorite bagel in town!

Yeah, I work by here and frequent it for their bodega bagel, every time I convince myself to get a classic lox bagel I’m immensely disappointed. Like you said, ratios are way off. Bodega bagel is solid though.

I cannot think of any good reason to go to Rosen’s; not only are they inferior to Nervous Charlies and Wholly Bagel, they’re substantially more expensive than almost everywhere in town (specifically for a cream cheese and lox).

The lemon stuff they have ruined the bagel for my and my husband. I wish they’d rethink it. Sunshine sauce I think it is. No thanks.

I miss when Rosen’s was mostly a delivery product. the bagels are good, and I could simply choose not to fuck up the sandwich preparation doing it myself. but now they’re really far away from me and don’t deliver anymore.

Rosens is my least favorite bagel shop, also had the lox sandwich and was disappointed. I also had the lemon basil schmear and the lemon was way too overpowering

Thanks for the review, I have been enjoying your bagel series.

  9. Jesus Christ, that price is absolutely delusional

I’ll just say, a toasted Rosens bagel is so much better than untoasted. We get them to go and freeze them. Run a frozen bagel under some water – give it a long toast. The outside gets crisp and chewy and inside is steamy and fluffy. Their cream cheese is the best in my opinion.

  11. Definitely try the burnet location and please write up a new review , would love to hear your thoughts .

Don’t miss out on the Salty New Yorker pop ups every other Saturday, best New York style bagels around!

  13. David Doughies on eastside takes the crown! This place is an awful tourist trap.

    Rockstar Bagels.
The rosemary salt bagel with bacon cream cheese is worth the drive.

As someone who loves Rosen’s and goes to the one on Burnet weekly.

Yea…..I have to order it with the cream cheese on the side. They put WAAAYYY to much otherwise.

I live across the street from the Burnet store. It’s hard to go as a habit but ive been many times – some trips are better than others but consistently:

    * My pickup order is never ready when they give an estimation
    * they routinely fuck up my bagel samiches and don’t add things I paid extra to add
    * why is my hot bagel samich that was finally finished and handed to me – cold when I get home? it’s been under 5 minutes!
    * As ive seen others mention – way, way too much cream cheese on solo bagels

Why keep going? Sometimes the egg and cheese bagel samich is pretty good, and it’s across the street. Convenience is nice. But again – i’d go so much more if they wouldn’t fuck it up as much as they do.

My guess is that they’re going for “NY bagels have a ton of cream cheese” angle. Which this is true. And they do because if you live and work in NYC you are very busy ALL THE TIME and so having all that extra cream cheese is good because LUNCH MIGHT BE LATE.

But as a NYC transplant living in Austin this is not the right bagel approach for Austin.

But also I would absolutely crush and love that bagel because it reminds me of home. And I’d also be mad about the lox amount and how they subbed in tomatoes which I’m certain are only in lox bagels to stretch the lox.
