Without decanting it was a punch to the face. Insane pomegranate , dark tart black cherry and cedar notes. Had to let this decant for about half an hour and it was delicious. My brother could have let this bottle age a bit more but still beautiful.

I mean, it’s Reddit’s favorite wine.
Oof opened the 2021? Diabolical but glad you enjoyed it!
Early.
A somm once told me it’s overexposed and underrated at the same time, and even though it was a selling line, I think he was absolutely right.
Waaaaaay too young for what your brother paid.
I’d decant for a few hrs with this young red
Ahh yes, the proper place to decant a wine, on the stove
As a younger person waiting tables in a high-end steak house, this was one of my first Great wine tastes. The PGA tour would come through as a group, an they would leave magnums of Opus on the table, unfinished. As staff, we got to drink a lot of good wine. Later, my boss and friend, who was also the Chef and Owner of another spot where I worked, gave me a bottle of Opus 1 each year for my birthday (4 years in a row). It was an insane treat! As others in hospitality have noted, the wine is/has been overhyped, and it went through some changes over the years w ownership, etc. But I have to say that it was exceptional each time, and also very different from year to year. Awesome wine, hope you enjoyed!
Last week I finished a project for a client of mine in Kenwood. As I was leaving she asked if I liked wine and said she won wine at a charity auction and hates red wine. I said yeah, and she disappeared to the garage. She came struggling back inside with 6 bottle wooden crate of 2013 Opus One and insisted I take it. I explained what it was, She said she knew but if I didn’t take it she was going to donate it. Now I’m looking for a wine fridge. Hahaha
Did he open it with a coat hanger?
I know most would’ve told you to wait ,but it’s better to drink them young than too old, a d also good wine is good wine always.
Amazing, love 2021. Three hours of decanting is great, but it can age for a long time.
So opus with the gravity fed winery, de-stemmed grape clusters and low tannin wines going into the super expensive French cooperage, I think is not worth the price. Just my opinion. YMMV.
Hug and kiss your brother and enjoy your time with him along with the juice!
I love Opus. Ignore the haters. Perfect type of wine if you enjoy Bordeaux style Napa wine.
That label is so beautiful. It takes a true artist to come up with that
